Gen X, This is Why is a podcast that re-examines the sometimes bizarre and often scarring media from our shared childhood. Jennie and Amye, sisters and sometimes mortal enemies, are your hosts. Our first stop is Walnut Grove as we take a fresh look at our favorite frontier family (as if we can name another), the Ingalls. There is some seriously weird sh*t in this show that answers a lot of questions...

Join Jennie and Amye, sisters and sometimes mortal foes, as they dissect one of the most impactful shows from our shared, Gen X childhood: Little House on the Prairie.
In Season 8, Episode 17: Days of Sunshine, Days of Shadow Part 1, Almonzo is acting a fool as he’s racking up debt and running around in the rain without a coat. Not surprisingly, he falls ill and Doc allows a room full of people to be exposed to Almonzo’s highly contagious disease. When Manly morphs into a giant man baby and refuses to do the exercises Doc has provided, Elize Jane comes to town to spoon feed him and possibly hit on him, not sure. Laura is left, once again, to take care of everything while 18 months pregnant.

Little House on the Prairie S8 EP15: Uncle Jed

Little House on the Prairie S8 EP15: Uncle Jed

Join Jennie and Amye, sisters and sometimes mortal foes, as they dissect one of the most impactful shows from our shared, Gen X childhood: Little House on the Prairie.
In Season 8, Episode 15: Uncle Jed, the Cooper twins are stunned when Uncle Jed returns with a buttload of cash and a fancy carriage. After endearing himself to Jason and Cassandra, he lawyers the f**k up and tries to rip these already scarred children from Charles’ strong, masculine arms. Cassandra wins a poetry contest, Caroline and Charles have a little romance put back into their marriage thanks to the railroad, and Adam-a lawyer who could help Charles out here-is nowhere to be found. We relive our teenage years spent in a local, haunted sanatorium, and Jennie talks about consumption.

In Season 8, Episode 14: The Legacy, Charles has yet another mid-life crisis after his rando friend dies of a heart attack in dramatic fashion. After a partnership with local store owner, Sven, proves fruitful, Charles takes his furniture making to Minneapolis where he works himself nearly to death, only to get screwed by another Willie Wonka-looking business man. Little House on the Prairie S8 EP13: Stone Soup

Little House on the Prairie S8 EP13: Stone Soup

Join Jennie and Amye, sisters and sometimes mortal foes, as they dissect one of the most impactful shows from our shared, Gen X childhood: Little House on the Prairie.
In Season 8, episode 13: Stone Soup, Charles ropes Manly into leaving town just as he and Laura have planted an orchard leaving the mom-to-be to water trees in a drought and almost die. Willie is quite the help, leaving Amye to have a scandalous theory about their relationship-which may get her canceled.
Amye’s mic sounds like she’s recording from inside a tunnel- sorry!

Little House on the Prairie S8 EP10: Wave of the Future

Join Jennie and Amye, sisters and sometimes mortal foes, as they dissect one of the most impactful shows from our shared, Gen X childhood: Little House on the Prairie.
In Season 8, episode 10: Wave of the Future, a fast-talking restaurateur cons Harriet into franchising Caroline’s already-successful restaurant. The change ends up being too much and poor Caroline and Hester Sue are the ones who suffer. Literally nothing much happens in this one, so we spend a lot of time talking about pretty much anything else.

The Ultimate Roast of Little House

As a long time fan of Little House and someone throughly familiar with the show’s cornball content and Michael Landon’s ham-fisted metaphors (not to mention his absurdly bronzed and meticulously waxed chest) I was looking for a podcast that properly roasted the show.

I found exactly what is was looking for in Gen X, This is Why. I listen to this podcast religiously and often on loop. I’m a millennial but I have two Get X older siblings and listening to Amye and Jennie rip this show to shreds feels like hanging out with two cool older sisters.

Five stars simply isn’t enough! 10/10.

New favorite!

If you are GenX, or even if you aren’t, this is a great podcast. I love that they are sisters and their rapport is hilarious and completely representative of our generation’s humor - sardonic, skeptical, and hilarious. Reminds me of my brother and I making fun of things. I laugh out loud multiple times every episode.

They had me at Carrie’s Trash Mouth

I’m about 10 years older than Jennie — clearly qualified by the standards of the day to babysit these sisters in infancy — so this shown really speaks to me. Y’all make me laugh out loud! More After School Specials please! Keep up the great work.
