Little House on the Prairie S3 Ep16 To Live with Fear Part 1

Jack earns his title as second most hated pet when he causes Mary to get kicked by a horse and almost die. This is the beginning of Mary’s martyrdom, as she insists she’s fine before collapsing in an intense jump rope competition with Nellie. Doc Baker once again fails to diagnose this condition and resorts to fat shaming for good measure. Charles and Caroline take Mary to Rochester which is a million miles away. Jennie says something kind about church, we are horrified to learn Carrie’s real age, and Amye calls out Michael Landon on some problematic casting. The episode ends as many do- with us talking about our fear of wildlife. Little House on the Prairie S3 Ep13 Quarantine

Little House on the Prairie S3 Ep13 Quarantine

This week’s episode hits a little too close to home as the residents of Walnut Grove are under strict quarantine orders to avoid the spread of Mountain Fever. As expected, they completely boggle this pandemic: Doc Baker heads out of town, Edwards drinks from a rando’s bottle and almost kills everyone, and Laura can’t mind her own business long enough to survive a week. Amye relives the trauma of catching the “funk” from her own rando bottle-sharing, Jennie is DONE with Carrie and her tragic bangs, and Hanson has even more power than we realized. Little House on the Prairie S3 Ep12 I'll Ride the Wind

Little House on the Prairie S3 Ep12 I'll Ride the Wind

John Jr grows even more insufferable this episode as he stops to ponder EVERYTHING, even a hawk flying overhead, which results in a full poetry scholarship to University. Edwards struggles to understand basic grown-up emotions and struggles with John Jr’s “thinkin.” While Grace, hero of the episode, encourages John Jr to get an education. Charles offers up Mary as a child bride, which puzzles us since we didn’t even know they were in love, and Carl’s Jr is once again overlooked...like ten times. Finally, Amye goes on a rant about the publishing industry. Time Capsule: The Crown Season 4 Part One (Episodes 1+2)

Time Capsule: The Crown Season 4 Part One (Episodes 1+2)

In this episode we discuss episodes 1 and 2 of Season 4 of The Crown. With “The Troubles” as a backdrop, Prince Charles meets Lady Diana Spencer and Margaret Thatcher comes to power. Amye does a horrible British accent, Jennie dorks out on the British monarchy, and we both have some unpopular opinions around Charles and Camilla. We have a brief aside about murder shows set in the UK, we struggle to understand the Royal Family’s obsession with hunting and outdoorsy stuff in general, and Jennie goes all “down with the Queen.” Show Notes: To sign up for our Patreon feed, download the Patreon app or visit www.patreon.com/genxthisiswhy Follow Gen X, This is Why on Facebook: facebook.com/genxthisiswhy/ Join our Facebook Group, The Me-Me B’s for extra content, giveaways, and some fun Gen X introspection: facebook.com/groups/genxthisiswhy/ And find us on Instagram at: @genxthisiswhy You can find Amye at: @amyearcherwriter You can find Jennie, but good luck with that. I watched as a kid and started watching again during quarantine. I needed this show because no one else wants to talk about a 45 year old show! 🤣

Little Podcast on the Prairie

Wanting to hear a podcast by someone I could relate to, I searched “gen x” and this is’the first show that came up. Like Caroline's breakfast when she was pregnant. When I saw they were rewatching Little House, I knew I’d hit the jackpot. Just like Mr. Edwards did when he got Grace to marry him.

I love listening to Jennie and Amye, like I love when Mary is annoyed by Laura keeping her from falling asleep (and why do they have to share a bed anyway?) Amye’s laugh is hilarious, like Jack barking for no apparent reason. Jennie’s droll presentation is wonderful. Just like any time Carrie speaks and nobody can understand her. Their rapport and timing is everything. Just like the preacher's sermons.

I’m trying hard to work the Oleson family into this review, but there’s nothing evil about this podcast.

I love this podcast

I will say I’m only to episode 15 but I really enjoy listening to these two sisters as they revisit Little House and other media form our childhood. My younger sister Jeni and I are only a few years older than these two so a lot of what they say is so familiar! I am a Pa lover too. My goodness, Landon was a hunky hunk hunk. As a small kid when the shows started I complained that he didn’t have the beard that Laura talked about so much in the books. I was won over. ;-) Keep up the great work and I’ll catch up eventually! I’m already in the Me-Me’s!
