Gentle Provocation

Srdjan Vukcevic

Most leadership advice is wrong. Not because it's stupid - but because it's designed for how people should behave, not how they actually do. Gentle Provocation is a podcast about behaviour, leadership, and the uncomfortable questions behind both. With Srdjan Vukcevic - behavioural strategist, executive coach, and founder of Blue Coach and HR4Leadership. Quiet questions. Strategic consequences.

Naoki Eiga: The Weak Can Become Strong | 4x Kendo 8th Dan Champion — Gentle Provocation

Twenty-two years ago I sat in the Budokan in Tokyo and, by chance, ended up beside the kendo champion I had travelled across the world to see. His name was Naoki Eiga. This conversation is what happened when we sat down together again — two decades later. Naoki Eiga is one of the most respected kendoka alive: a four-time All-Japan Invitational 8th Dan Champion (three times in a row — the first in the tournament's history), World Kendo Championship individual and team titleholder, and All-Japan Champion. Yet when I asked him about winning, he moved past it almost at once.He spoke instead about kendo as a way of life. About learning from every person you meet. About timing over force. About seeing an opponent not as a flat surface but as a whole. And about the thing that has stayed with me since: that he did all of it to show the world the weak can become strong — because he had once been weak. A conversation about discipline, humility, and what remains after the winning is over.
