    I (Gentleman Lars) and Emmanuel Guegan, product developer at Holland & Holland, continue to talk about the traditions of hunting in the United Kingdom. We continue to talk about importance of wearing a tie at the hunt in the UK.  Many hunters can spend much time choosing their tie and socks. We go on talking about: Hunting as a comfort zone in a rapidly changing world. Why being good company is of great importance when hunting. The qualities of a good shooting suit.     Preparing for my first hunt in the United Kingdom. Part 1. Advice from Emmanuel Guegan, Holland & Holland.

    A goal for me (Gentleman Lars) is to start hunting in the United Kingdom. Emmanuel  Guegan, product developer at Holland & Holland, gives me good advice. Holland & Holland has a long history of creating bespoke firearms for hunting. We talk about: What clothes I need to get for the hunt. Would it be a good idea for me to dress to be discrete at the hunt? What would be appropritate gifts, if I was invited to a hunt in the United Kingdom. Emmanuel’s criteria of luxury. This is the best definition of luxury that I have heard. It makes good sense. Gentleman Lars is produced by the production company Tonträff.

    Crafting ties in the UK for 30 years: Mustard Ties

    Since I am a wannabe gentleman, beautiful ties is something I want to explore more about. For that reason I talked with Chris Waldron about the creation of quality ties and how to wear ties. Chris Waldron has a long history of working with menswear. He founded Mustard Ties in 1996. At that time he had already worked with ties and other menswear for several years. When we talked he gave me good advice how to chose what ties to wear and how to chose a tie when I want to stand out. We also talked bout how to wear a ties when not expected. I know our conversation will change how I will wear ties from now on.

    Bill Amberg on running a successful leather craft studio in the age of AI

    With clients such as Paul Smith, The Savoy, and Vincent Van Duysen, it’s clear that Bill Amberg Studio is creating some of the most attractive and respected leatherwork today. I recently had the pleasure of interviewing the studio’s founder, Bill Amberg, about how he first became interested in leather as a schoolboy in New Hampshire, and how he has gone on to grow a thriving craft business in London. For me, the conversation was a real learning experience into the world of leather craft. During our conversation, Bill surprised me several times: The inspiration for his iconic Rocket Bag came from vintage cars, motorcycles — and a comic he enjoyed reading. Leatherwork and vegetable tanning date back to a time long before humans even discovered how to make wine. While travelling in Australia and New Zealand as a young man, Bill was able to support himself through his leather craft skills. Refreshing thoughts on skilled craft in the AI era I guess I am not the only one who sometimes feels a bit fed up with the constant talk about how AI will change absolutely everything. Well, yes, new technology will—and has—always changed how humans live our lives. Still, some parts of being human have not changed more or less at all since people started creating artefacts in leather many thousands of years ago. Bill Amberg explained why he thinks craft is not a dying industry; instead, he argues that finely made things, created carefully by human hands, will be more valued and important in the future. He spoke about the increasing need for reality. Do you agree with him?
