Let’s talk about it: why communication shapes your whole life (and how to do it better)

We communicate every single day… but somehow, no one ever teaches us how to communicate well. In this episode, we unpack why communication breaks down, how social conditioning shapes the way we express ourselves, and why so many relationship issues are actually communication issues in disguise. We also chat about our growing reliance on AI to write texts, emails and difficult messages, whether it's helping or hurting our communication skills, and why being comfortable with awkward conversations is a skill worth building. We cover: 💜 Why we often contribute to communication breakdowns without realising it 🤖 Are we outsourcing too many conversations to AI? 👯‍♀️ How gender expectations influence the way we communicate 🙋‍♀️ Why women are often labelled "bossy" for being direct ✨ Practical ways to become a more confident communicator 💭 The difference between being clear and being liked 🫶 Why communication is always a two-way street Practical takeaways: Practice assertiveness in low-stakes situations. Stop expecting people to read your mind. You can be kind and clear. Someone else's reaction isn't always a reflection of how well you communicated. Journal prompts: Do I feel safe being honest about what I need? What communication habit is helping my relationships... and what habit is hurting them? How do I want the people I care about to feel after talking with me? Communication recs: ▶️ The science behind dramatically better conversations | Charles Duhigg | TEDxManchester  📚 Crucial Conversations – Kerry Patterson et al.📚 You're Not Listening – Kate Murphy📚 The Next Conversation – Jefferson Fisher 💌 Subscribe to  to be the first to know when new eps drop https://substack.com/@getittogetherpod💬 DM us - https://www.instagram.com/getittogether_pod 💜 Share this episode with someone who needs to hear it ♪ stream cafe - boba date This is a public episode. Resolutions but Regulated 🧘🏼 ♀️

The year doesn’t start in January - and neither should you. TLDR the Gregorian calendar’s start date is arbitrary, disconnected from nature, and primarily a construct of historical and commercial influence etc etc. So in lieu of that, let’s find a New Year that works for us - here are just some you can choose from: - Astrological New Year: Astrologically, the new year begins when the Sun enters Aries, which occurs around the Spring Equinox. - Personal New Year: Many feel their personal cycle restarts on their birthday, which is seen as a more meaningful, individualised time to set new goals and reflect on the past year. - Lunar New Year: Celebrated by many cultures (Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean) based on a lunisolar calendar, that we celebrated just last week on Feb 17. What We’re Chatting About - Why Shannon is NOT a New Year’s Resolution girl - Making intentions from alignment vs. pressure - Slutty little glasses (IYKYK) - The psychological spiral of online shopping cart purgatory It wouldn’t be a new year without a vision board!! What’s on yours? Send us pics & Tag us. We round it out with advice to our younger selves on new years. Georgia - Only making resolutions that come from places of  love, joy, compassion Shannon - Be more patient with myself 💌 Subscribe to https://getittogetherpod.substack.com/ to be the first to know when new eps drop 💜 Share this episode with someone who needs to hear it💬 Slide into our DMs @https://www.instagram.com/getittogether_pod/ ♪ stream cafe - boba date: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kj1MDJXJ7-I This is a public episode. Tenacity: You've Got You

Ever have one of those weeks where everything feels a bit too much? Same here. We unpack the idea of tenacity—not just the “push through no matter what” version, but the gentler, more grounded kind that keeps us anchored when everything around us is shifting. 💭 In This Episode - Redefining tenacity: why strength isn’t always about pushing harder - Georgia’s story of moving overseas during the pandemic — and learning to say yes to small, scary things - Shannon’s high school rejection story, and how it became a quiet turning point toward purpose - The power of humour and lightness when life gets heavy - Simple, practical ways to find your anchor and build inner strength 🌿 Key Takeaways ✨ Patience is strength. Everything meaningful takes time. ✨ Rest is not quitting. Pausing helps you come back clearer. ✨ Connection builds resilience. Let others help—you don’t have to do it all alone. ✨ Do the basics well. The boring, grounding habits are what keep you steady. ⚓ Reflection Prompt How are you your own anchor? What helps you? And how have you moved yourself through the ups and downs of life.
