    S4 EP03 - Business Process Improvements With Accounts Payable with Kerry Peters & Cari Corozza

    Do you find your AP team stuck with getting accounts payable entered and paid on time that they are unable to focus on doing other finance processes in the company? 
    This results from inefficient bookkeeping workflow, skepticism in getting an accounting professional to work remotely, and transitioning to a paperless accounting system that affects your ability to close your month faster. 
    At New View Strategies, we ensure that when we step in and work side-by-side with our customers, we make it possible for them to maximize the BC/NAV system and train their AP team to become more comfortable with the paperless and remote processes. 
    Essential points covered in this episode:
    ✔️ A very strong AP person is the key to a really strong accounting department. Numerous transactions posted in your general ledger will come from purchase invoices or invoices from purchase orders. Suppose those are entered to the wrong accounts, incorrect amounts, or even the wrong dimensions — it can take a lot of fixing at month's end because first, you need to review and find all of those errors. 
    It is, therefore, crucial to have an accounts payable employee who is properly trained on what can be done with the Business Central/NAV system because a lot of people don't know what the functionality is. An accounting team that doesn't know what to do with the system will be ineffective and hurt your business in the long run. 
    ✔️A BC/NAV feature that not many people use is Deferrals. NVS Accounting Manager Cari Corozza shares that this is her favorite function that immensely improves how users can process accounts payable. This helps eliminate the number of journal entries made at month end by doing it upfront on the purchase invoices. 
    ✔️ Save time, frustration, and tons of paper. Corozza explains that once organizations learn to take little steps in making that transition, they will feel more at ease with how that process will look in the future. "We're taking into account all of the little intricacies or needs of that company to make sure that the process we're presenting for paperless is going to work for them. So just making sure that everyone's on board with that and then helping implement that process helps everyone in the company get a little more comfortable with the paperless and remote process."
    ✔️ By transitioning to more electronic payments, vendors are more than happy to help. Many businesses still rely on writing checks with a chance of them getting lost in the mail or getting late fees due to delivery delays. Companies that do this will face more challenges in the future unless they become paperless and pay vendors electronically; the accounting department stalls having more efficiency in their processes.

    S4 EP02 - Process Improvement With Journal Entries with Kerry Peters & Cari Corozza

    One of the main points of frustration for Business Central users is handling journal entries. We often receive feedback on how users spend a lot of time manually entering things and doing reversals for accruals in the system. There is a ton of functionality in BC that not many are aware they can take advantage of. 
    NVS Accounting Manager Cari Corozza shares how they were able to help a company go from 15 days to five days close. By enabling the company to save ten days in the accounting cycle, they can spend more time putting together account schedules, financials, analyses, and other important work. 
    Essential points covered in this episode:
     ✔️ How much time do you spend manually posting transactions to convert to ledger entries? One of the first things we recommend at New View Strategies is using recurring general journals. This allows you flexibility with journal entries booked month after month, quarter after quarter, or maybe just once a year. This essentially builds a template for those journal entries and allows the user to say how often they want those journals to be generated and whether or not they want the amounts to be reset or stay the same.
    ✔️ What's the best way to put things from Excel into Business Central for journal entries? Many people will use configuration packages or edit in Excel or journal imports. Corozza points out that copying and pasting are seemingly simple yet the most efficient and accurate form to get journal entries. "What I found in all of my years is that it's efficient and accurate for getting journal entries either from Business Central to Excel or from Excel to Business Central. Once we help them create these templates in Excel, they can fill them out every month and then copy and paste them into their general journals. You can also copy and paste into recurring general journals as long as those additional fields are set correctly."
    ✔️ Microsoft continues to invest in development to bring new features that accountants need, saving time and frustration in their month end. Always stay on top of the different changes and benefits that Microsoft introduces. Learn to use functionalities you may not know and post financial transactions to accounts easier and faster.
    Remember that the improvements made in the BC/NAV systems are supposed to help save you time and energy and not the other way around.

    ✔️One of the main things that people take away from our course is knowing that they can get more time to do the actual work rather than waste time figuring out steps or processes. 
    ✔️We often meet users who complain that they can't find things in the system. It's taking them too long, or they're frustrated and bookmarked 30 items and still can't find stuff anyway.

    ✔️ The Saved Views feature has been available in the NAV system since 2009, yet many users have to filter their list views for the same thing repeatedly. This is the personalization that is underutilized and could save so much time. 
    ✔️There are many ways to do things in the BC/Nav system to accomplish the same end result. But we like to show the 'righter' way so that you can do it more efficiently & accurately.

In this episode, Experts from New View Strategies, Kim Congleton and Kerry Peters, engage in an interesting conversation on how companies can't predict everything but can plan and be ready for surprises to happen.
