    In the first episode of GLOBcast: Convening the Council, Federica Mangiameli, Policy Fellow at GLOBSEC, is joined by Admiral Rob Bauer, former Chair of NATO’s Military Committee and former Chief of Defence of the Netherlands. Drawing on his experience at the highest levels of NATO decision-making, Admiral Bauer reflects on how Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has reshaped the Alliance’s approach to deterrence, defence, and readiness. The conversation explores the evolution of modern warfare, from hybrid threats and cyber operations to the growing importance of civilian infrastructure, supply chains, and societal resilience. The episode also discusses capability gaps among European Allies, the role of air and missile defence, and whether NATO societies can realistically prepare for the demands of future conflict.
