  1. Everchanging Landscape

    01/22/2024

    Everchanging Landscape

On this week's episode of Go For Bronze we discuss a possible future where Microsoft plays the role of publisher over console manufacturer. Leaks have come out of two potential games coming to other platforms possibly as an experiment. The two titles in question are Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush. Outside of the world of exclusives there is much to breakdown on the subscription front. We now know Square Enix developed multiplayer game Foamstars will be launching on PlayStation Plus and by the sounds of the description it will debut on PlayStation Plus Essential meaning once added to your library you will retain access for as long as you have an active subscription. Are you comfortable with temporary access? That is exactly what Ubisoft wants to know for the future of subscriptions. The French company is making the point that for the subscription model to be successful we must be ok not owning games. This is indeed a conundrum not only for us as consumers but also for industry greats. Larian Studios the team behind critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3 says that they will not put games on subscription services and that from studio to the players is the best relationship. As for what will be on subscription services this month, we cover that here too talking about the new titles added to the extra and premium tiers of PlayStation Plus. We also spend time to discuss the success of Hogwarts Legacy as the first game in 15 years to have higher sales than a Call of Duty or Rockstar game at the end of the year. Curious about the last game to do it 15 years ago? That would be none other than my beloved Rock Band developed by Harmonix who have announced they will no longer be adding DLC to Rock Band 4 and telling me I should play Fortnite Festival instead, no thank you. The Grass isn't always Greener

On this week's episode of Go For Bronze we discuss the continued struggle of PlayStation's live service initiative. Sony has announced that just 6 of the original 12 live service games will launch by March 2026. The next Grand Theft Auto has finally been acknowledged in a meaningful way by Rockstar and we should be seeing an actual trailer this December. We speculate the trailer will appear at The Game Awards which will be taking place on December 7th. As for what else might be there we don't know. What we do know is that a number of titles have seemingly been delayed or are coming later than expected. Ubisoft has moved a title to next fiscal year which many think is Star Wars Outlaws. Bioware has teased the next Mass Effect on N7 day but there are reports that the title won't come until at least 2029 or later. Remember Bioware has yet to give Dragon Age Dreadwolf a release date which was announced half a decade ago back in 2018 and has been rumored to circle back to the drawing board while in production featuring "God of War" like combat which would be a first for the RPG focused franchise. Back on the PlayStation side the director of The Last of Us Multiplayer has said that he is still working on the project and the HBO show has confirmed that the second season should be arriving in 2025 with production beginning in early 2024. It's a new month and that means new PlayStation Plus titles available for PlayStation Plus Essential members. Alan Wake 2 launches to well-deserved critical acclaim while Call of Duty hits a low point in reviews since the series inception. Do you believe this is truly the best year in games of all time? 3. Swing off the Shelves!

    Swing off the Shelves!

On this week's episode of Go For Bronze we discuss the quick success of Insomniac's Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man 2 is now the fastest selling PlayStation title of all time. Following the success of this huge release we breakdown some items that will be coming to the game post launch including a surprising fix for something that slipped by QA. Speaking of post release, we have news about the roadmap of content following the launch of the highly anticipated Alan Wake 2. Creeping into stores this Friday Alan Wake 2 promises the scares in game and not in pricing as there will be "significant" DLC updates for free and the game is releasing at $59.99. Streaming for PlayStation Plus Premium members has now been detailed explaining options for both performance and what content will be available to stream. October's lineup of PlayStation Plus titles are landing strong with the extra titles but unfortunately taking fall damage in the Premium tier yet again. Sony continues to use redundant and lesser versions of titles to bolster what is on offer in the premium tier instead of giving true classics with trophy support. Call of Duty release is right around the corner and PS5 Slims bundled with MW3 have been spotted in the wild giving us a better idea of when you can expect the new models on shelves near you. Amazon's Fallout TV show has announced the release date for the first episode. It has been long enough since it's PC release so we decide to check in on the System Shock Remake for consoles. 4. Fall Damage

    09/25/2023

    Fall Damage

On this week's episode of Go For Bronze we discuss the fall State of Play. PlayStation presents a "third party and indies" state of play only to then show Spider-Man 2, Helldivers 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Surely this will rattle expectations for the coming state of plays and showcases in the future. We begin to get a good look at how 2024 will start with numerous release dates unveiled for January and February with FF7R launching as a leap year exclusive and Helldivers 2 releasing early in the month. We now know that Helldivers 2 will launch at $40 for the standard edition and we discuss the likeliness that it will come to PlayStation Plus Extra on launch. Spider-Man 2 adds a potentially controversial feature to the core experience that can thankfully be toggled off if the player doesn't enjoy the new mechanic. A document leaks from Bethesda and we get an inside look at the roadmap of what titles they have in the pipeline including DLC. As this is an older document we speculate what has changed since and we get into the business side of what we think will be exclusive and what we think will come to subscription services and how. One of the best aspects of the acquisitions is all of the information we get to see that would otherwise never be available to us and it helps us understand the decisions that are being made at the top. On the unfortunate side of gaming business we learn of layoffs coming to Ascendent Studios off of the somewhat lackluster release of EA Original Immortals of Aveum which is a shame and we wish them the best moving forward. At other studios, Glen Schofield leaves Striking Distance Studios and Stig Asmussen leaves Respawn before the Star Wars Jedi trilogy can be completed. We also heavily discuss what drives excitement in announcements of new titles and try to figure out if leaks are to blame for the negativity we sometimes see following said announcements. Top 10 lists are breeding grounds for disagreement and we do just that looking over IGN's recent Top 10 PS3 games of all time while also discussing why we should care of their opinion as the gold standard when it comes to reviews, either way it is all in good fun. What do you expect to see in the next PlayStation State of Play/Showcase? 5. Critical Error

    09/13/2023

    Critical Error

On this week's episode of Go For Bronze we discuss the economics of modern gaming. Rumors of Grand Theft Auto VI costing $150, PlayStation Plus increasing its price, and with early access plaguing new releases it is quite costly to enjoy games these days. In this new cutthroat era you must make smart decisions and release high quality titles to survive. Volition is shutting down due to the lackluster release of the 2022 reboot of Saints Row and Gearbox is up for sale due to the mismanagement by parent company Embracer. PlayStation Plus has increased its annual price tag and we discuss the value of it all. PlayStation Plus Extra has a few titles leaked for September but no word on the Premium classics at the moment. Ace is currently loving Twisted Metal and Joel is experiencing the newest odyssey from Bethesda Game Studios over on Xbox. Larian Studios has released Baldur's Gate 3 to critical success and we are eager to dive in to see if it really lives up to the hype. Ubisoft's latest shooter XDefiant has failed the certification process from PlayStation and Xbox delaying the release however, it may come as soon as the end of the month with a new conditional certification requiring a day one patch. October spooks Alone in the Dark out of this year and into January 2024. Spider-Man 2 is now getting official stills released so if you want to stay away you have been warned! Would you pay more than $70 for the next release of Grand Theft Auto? Thank you so much for listening to the show! ----------------------------- Twitch: goforbronzepod - Twitch IG: GoFor Bronze (@goforbronzepod) | Instagram Twitter: Go For Bronze™ (@GoForBronzePod) / Twitter YT: Go For Bronze - YouTube
