Episode 67 | Middle Names, Immediate Experts, Youth Area Update, and the Lord's Prayer

(00:37) What is your middle name? (4:35) Question of the Day:  If you could instantly become an expert in one thing, what would you want it to be? (11:27) Off Topic Topic: Will Currier - Youth Area Update(17:05) Discussion & Member Questions: Let’s recap what we covered on Sunday just to remind everyone what it was about (22:57) How do we balance the “meaningless repetitions” in our prayer with Jesus’s parable about the unrighteousness judge and how he instructs us to cry out to him day and night? Insinuating that petitioning God over and over again does have a direct effect on God answering us.(25:03) I was raised Catholic and taught that the way to pray is by saying scripted prayers, often being the Lord’s Prayer, as you spoke about this week, and also the Catholic rosary repeating this and other scripted prayers (AKA: the Hail Mary that is not found in scripture) word for word, often done in group settings. What are the benefits to the practice of reciting scripted prayers, alone and in a group?(29:02) is there a misunderstanding between our feelings and the heart?(30:26) The will can act apart from the temperature of the heart” - Is it possible to fully forgive without feeling that forgiveness at all?(35:05) Let’s talk more about vv. 14-15. (42:55) The sixth request “lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil” seems like it contradicts James 1:13 “Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone”- can we talk about how to think about temptation?(46:50) The passage talks about those praying out in public because they want to be seen. What about those on the opposite extreme who never want to pray in public and avoid it as much as possible?(58:07) Celebration: Youth

Episode 60 | See You Soon Kevin, Being Ticklish, Encountering God, Gambling, The Beatitudes, and Being Salt & Light

(1:51) Question of the Day:  In honor of May 4th, what is your favorite star wars character? (3:45) Are you ticklish? (7:00) Off Topic Topic: What does it really mean to “encounter God” (18:37) Discussion & Member Questions: Let’s recap what we covered on Sunday just to remind everyone what it was about (22:17) Why do we call it the Beattitudes?(24:48) Matthew 5:7 says, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy” which sounds much like Jesus also saying if you do not forgive others, then your father will not forgive you. Sometimes we say that the one that has been truly forgiven will always forgive others. But this sounds more like if we don’t forgive then we will no longer be forgiven. How do we understand this idea with the gospel being unconditional grade? If I’m a believer but refuse to show mercy then what happens?(32:48) Could Kevin speak more on how gambling is hurting young men such as he talked about this weekend? It’s something that so many believers even do and people may know it’s something the Bible is against but understand why it’s bad may be less intuitive.(39:01) I have seen “Blessed are those who are persecuted” taken out of context by Christians who call other fellow Christians hypocrites and tell non-Christians they need to repent or they’ll go to hell. The pushback they receive from others they perceive as their persecution for proclaiming the Gospel. That being said, what could being persecuted look like for a Christian living in the United States, which has more freedoms than other countries?(46:48) You mentioned the 1 John verse about the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. How does discipleship and community actually help someone fight those things, especially if they’re stuck in something like sexual sin, while still trying to live as salt and light?(51:15) Celebration: SALT End of Semester
