As citizens of that kingdom, he also shows us how we bring it to earth here and now while awaiting a future day of complete restoration. As we join that petition, in words and actions, we find our prayers and desires shift to match God’s kingdom and will.

    The Lord's Prayer: Part 2 - Our FatherIn his prayer, Jesus presents two truths about God; he is God Almighty, sovereign, all-powerful, blameless, pure, righteous and Creator. And by calling him Father, Jesus declares he is a loving, caring, understanding, always present, merciful, forgiving provider. While none of us have a perfect earthly father, Jesus’s prayer show us we can come to Almighty God as our good and perfect father.We are allowed to approach God Almighty as our loving dad.

    The Lord's Prayer Part 1: Teach Us To Pray Jesus’s disciples asked him to teach them how to pray. They were well acquainted with prayer because they were raised praying in their Jewish households. They’d probably been praying daily for the majority of their lives and still sensed something was different about the way Jesus prayed. So, they didn’t just want to learn more about praying, they wanted to learn to pray as Jesus prayed. With all their knowledge and practice, they still asked him, “Lord, teach us to pray.” Even if you’ve been praying your entire life, there’s more for you to learn about it.

    Ephesians: Gospel-Shaped Relationships - Part 5: Designer MarriageOur world offers multiple definitions of marriage and what it can be. God, as creator, knows what is best. We are called to surrender to his design for our good and flourishing. Paul didn’t invent a new blueprint, he points back to Genesis as the standard. When we release our desire to define our world and instead live according to his Word we show a watching world what God is like. This is his design for all of our relationships, including marriage.

    Ephesians: Gospel-Shaped Relationships Part 4: Defusing the Bomb When anger flares, we often focus on the sharp word, the forgotten errand, the dismissive tone. But beneath the surface lies something deeper: we want something we’re not getting. Our desires may be good and right, God-given even. The problem emerges when our desires turn into demands and we begin insisting that others meet them. The gospel shifts our focus from what we lack to what we’ve been given in Christ—acceptance, forgiveness, unfailing love and eternal security.

Part 3:  Truth TellersPaul spends three chapters reminding believers in Ephesus who they are in Christ; a new identity that shapes their relationships with each other. After establishing their gospel identity, Paul provides a list of behaviors to abandon and virtues to embrace, explaining the reason behind each instruction. Lying is a behavior that breaks trust and destroys community. By contrast, honesty builds and deepens our connections with each other.

    Ephesians:  Gospel-Shape Relationships Part 2:  One Jesus’ prayer for us—even as he neared death on the cross—was that we would be one. Our love for one another is to reflect the extravagant love that the Father, Son and Spirit share among themselves. As God is one, so we are to be one. Jesus says that oneness is the single greatest factor that will lead to his reputation being honored among the nations.

But when our identity is rooted in Christ, we experience clarity, humility, and unity in how we live and love. Throughout this series, we will return to this truth again and again: belief before behavior. Who we are in Jesus is the groundwork that shapes how we show up in every relationship.
