Great Perhaps

I love a smart podcast. I love a funny podcast. I love a podcast where the hosts feel like your best friends. This podcast combines all of those things and has sparked my interest in a subject (YA) that I never really knew or thought much about. McKay and Kyle are two thoughtful hosts who have such unique insights and raise such provoking questions that I often find myself pausing an ep to think, “Hmm… how would I answer that? What do I personally think of that?” Usually I just let a podcast tell me about a subject; this one, though, invites me in and makes me part of the conversation. Five stars! So glad I found it!

It strikes me listening to Great Perhaps that we’re not very good in education at teaching students how to have conversations, how to pose and frame questions to reach new understanding, how to build off each other instead of competing with each other. I don’t particularly identify as a YA reader (although my librarian just did a spit take), but as a HS teacher who loves to read, I recognized and learned more about how to have a conversation and how to appreciate a field. This podcast is a terrific model of how to combine analytical and emotional pulls into perhaps a greater understanding.
