PHIL MORRIS — From Boardrooms to Ironman: A Life Built on Adventure, Ambition & Never Giving Up. So this episode is one I have been wanting to record since I started ..not just because he's my hubbie!! 😂 because I love his story! ..and he's not just my hubbie ha ha..he's a passionate Welshman who now calls the Scottish Borders home, dad of 3 Phil is an entrepreneur, adventurer and, quite simply, someone who doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of 'that's enough'🙄 After beginning his career as a Chartered Accountant, Phil took a leap into the world of international sport, heading to Asia where he became Financial Controller for the Hong Kong Rugby Union. During his time there, he was involved with both the Hong Kong Sevens Organising Committee and the 1997 Rugby World Cup Sevens Committee — combining his love of business with his passion for sport. It's also where he met his wife...ME!!😂 Returning to the UK, Phil went on to found and lead the global sportswear brand Kukri, building it over 17 years into a £25 million-plus business operating across 10 countries, before its exit to JD Sports Fashion PLC in 2015. But for Phil, success has never simply been about numbers on a balance sheet. Alongside Peter, he later co-founded The Exiteers, a business consultancy and investment firm with a mission to help ambitious businesses evolve, grow and realise their potential. Today, the group has a portfolio of exciting businesses, including The Marketeers, GSP Digital Solutions and the Abbey Lifestyle Group. And then there’s Phil’s other great passion… sport and adventure. A lifelong rugby enthusiast, Phil founded, captained and later chaired Aberdeen Rugby Club (Hong Kong Jai) during his years in Hong Kong. He has taken on the legendary Speight’s Coast to Coast in New Zealand and completed multiple Ironman events — including a Double Ironman in 2013. And because apparently one Ironman wasn’t quite enough… five years later Phil completed the extraordinary challenge of 10 Ironmen in 10 days ! Now, there’s a new challenge on the horizon — the Texas Ironman, which Phil plans to tackle alongside his daughter Molly. From building businesses and embracing opportunities around the world to pushing himself to extraordinary physical limits, Phil’s story is a brilliant reminder that life is about having the courage to say yes, surrounding yourself with good people, taking on challenges and continuing to discover what you’re capable of.
