I just recently discovered Expert Table Tennis and I find that I’m learning about a variety of topics beyond table tennis. I’ve started a habit of listening to the show while I’m preparing dinner and I look forward to it each evening. There’s a lot more to this program than just the surface topic. For example, learning the difference between a tactic and a strategy (this also applies to chess by the way); how to set and overcome goals; diverse perspectives ranging from athletes to coaches to sports psychologists to racketlon, etc. If all the interviews were just focused on table tennis athletes I don’t think the show would be as interesting. But the host, Ben, does a great job of mixing it up so that we hear from a variety of individuals, each with their own unique lens. The show has provided me with a series of solid new reading material references, inspiration for my own athletics, ideas to ponder and of course inspiration to go out and locate my own local table tennis club (which I just did recently).
Note, one suggestion for a future episode is to discuss a glossary of table tennis terms and help explain the terminology to those of us who are new to this sport. This would really help newbies (like me) to better understand when details of a table tennis match are being discussed. A good comparison is directional theater terminology, such as “stage right, stage left” etc. You probably know what that means when you’re involved in theater productions every day but an outsider might have no idea which way to look when you use “stage left” in a theater discussion. Anyway, just a suggestion. Overall, this is a great show and I look forward to future episodes. 👍🏆👍
