    Holly Bourne, Author

    Holly Bourne is a bestselling and critically acclaimed author of adult and teen fiction as well as a mental health campaigner. Holly is very well known for her two novels for adults, How Do You Like Me Now, and Pretending, which are both funny, thoughtful and brutally honest, while also examining difficult subjects like abuse and trauma with sensitivity. After spending a number of years as an award winning journalist, Holly worked for a youth charity as an editor on the front line. Holly was impacted by the real life stories of the young people that she was helping, and she started writing teen fiction to help educate teens on subjects like obsessive compulsive disorder, feminism and mental health.  We chat about hating her job as a news journalist (which she also won awards for), why she can’t start a novel without knowing the first line, her experience working on the frontline of a mental health charity for teens, why people are terrified to invite her to their weddings, entering into cat competitions as a form of writing procrastination and the neuroscience behind why our memories of our teenage years are so damn vivid! Holly, like her work, is brilliant, funny and very honest. She’s been called “the Bridget Jones of this generation”.     Nick Stevens, Architect

    Nick Stevens is a multi award winning New Zealand based architect. Alongside Gary Lawson, he is the founder of Stevens Lawson Architects. Their practice is celebrated for its innovative and cutting-edge designs across a spectrum of different architecture including residential, public, educational, cultural and landscape architecture. Nick and the firm have won numerous awards, including the 2015 New Zealand Architecture Medal (New Zealand’s highest honour) as well as 21 NZIA National Awards and the Home of the Year a record four times.  We chat about how he first discovered architecture and knew that it was for him, at the age of 4 (!) How he found his business parter, Gary Lawson, the ingredients that makes their partnership so effective, what it means to experience art and architecture that moves you (and the pieces of architecture that have moved him most to his core).  We discuss some of Nick’s most notable and award winning work, how he finds his design inspiration and the project that Nick says “will probably be the most important work that I ever do”.     James Bulmer, Restauranteur & Entrepreneur

    Episode 6 is with the gregarious visionary, James Bulmer, an entrepreneur and restauranteur. James is also the founder and Chief Creative Officer of Wonderland Restaurants, a portfolio of restaurants that offer immersive and multi sensory dining experiences.  Earlier in 2020, James and his team partnered with Warner Brothers to create the first of Wonderland’s Restaurants, Park Row, which opens in London 2021.  James has formed a team who are top in the world at their craft - from leading chemical engineers, to Michelin Starred chefs and even Britain’s most famous illusionist, in order to bring their vision to life.  We discuss pushing the boundaries of culinary and dining experiences, the importance of storytelling and day dreaming, creating drinks that levitate and edible helium balloons at Michelin Starred restaurants, schools and institutions dismissing creativity, partnering with Warner Brothers and society’s collective fear of failure.  James is a true innovator and dreamer.     Des Hamilton, BAFTA Winning Casting Director

    Des Hamilton is a Glasgow born, London based, BAFTA winning Casting Director. Des has worked in film and television for over 15 years. Some of his work includes casting Jojo Rabbit, The King starring Timothee Chamalet, Ordinary Love with Liam Neesson, High Life with Robert Pattinson, the House that Jack Built with Matt Dillon and Uma Thurman, as well as casting Top Boy for Netflix, for which he won the 2020 BAFTA for Best Scripted Casting. Des is well known for his street-casting methods, where he finds raw, undiscovered talent, who have often never acted before. He famously street cast Thomas Turgoose in “This is England”, Tom Sweet in “The Childhood of a Leader” Kathleen McDermott in "Morvern Callar", for which she won a BAFTA for best newcomer. Des shares what it was like growing up as a working class kid in Glasgow and finding his way into the world of film and television, how he discovers raw talent on the streets of London, how the cast and crew of Top Boy have become family, what it was like winning a BAFTA during lockdown with his son in Paris (and whom he would like to present his award to him). We discuss his nation-wide search for the character of Jojo in Jojo Rabbit, overcoming the addiction battles of his youth, and the importance of kindness in the industry (and in life). It was an absolute privilege (and such blast) interviewing Des.     Emma Chrispin, West End Performer & Choreographer

    Emma Chrispin is a West End performer and choreographer. She landed her first show on the West End at the age of 18, and since then, has performed in a variety of musicals including Cats, Chicago, Fosse, and The Producers as well as having roles in film and TV.     Rich Stevens, Creative Director & Designer

    Rich Stevens is a London born and bred Creative Director and Designer, who has worked in the industry for over 15 years. He’s worked alongside some of the biggest names and brands out there including Arsenal and Chelsea football clubs, Wimbledon and Paramount Pictures. We chat about what phenomenal design really means (it ain’t just about the aesthetics), brand empathy during COVID, how he approaches and overcomes creative blocks, creative chemistry (it’s a thing), his sandwich obsession (it’s impressive), and the many lessons he’s learnt in his design career along the way. Essentially, Rich provides so. much. wisdom.  If you’re intrigued by the inner workings of the mind of a top end Creative Director and Designer, this one is for you.     Hatch, with Hannah Wrathall, is a new podcast series where we have conversations with creatives about starting something new. The very first guest is Jamie McDell, a singer and songwriter. Her records have achieved Gold album sales, they have featured on American TV series including Pretty Little Liars. She’s been nominated for and has won a range of New Zealand Music Awards. Her music is truly elegant and honest, (can confirm that her acapella at the end of the episode will most definitely give you goosebumps!)  Jamie has been in the industry for a decade, and more recently made the confronting and brave decision to (figuratively) depart from the safe commercial pop world, and (literally) move to the Northern Hemisphere to work in Nashville, to produce an Americana/Country style of music that’s more true to who she is.  We chat about the music world in the one and only Nashville, how she’s evolved as a musician, how terrible events can be a catalyst for her writing her greatest music, the pressure she’s faced by the industry to look or “be” a certain way (including that time she walked the red carpet in a shark costume in opposition to aforementioned pressure), isolation and the realities of pursuing a career that offers no guarantees.  Jamie is raw, wise and hilarious.
