Healing requires consistency, not perfection: Overcoming trauma in parenting with Marcia Earhart (Part 2)

Send us Fan Mail “Why does it feel like we aren’t healing?” “What actually works for healing trauma?” “Is my child’s trauma un-solvable?” — Two weeks ago, we heard Marcia Earhart’s story through adoption, parenting, loss, and healing from trauma. Today, Benoit Harpey and Brooke Lowry dive deeper in their conversation with Marcia, a trauma coach and mother, as they discuss how to practically parent through trauma to foster healing. Parenting through trauma, grief, and behavioral challenges can feel overwhelming, stagnant, and like a lost cause, but Marcia explains why it isn’t. Marcia expands on the truth of trauma being something that happened, not who a child is; highlights the importance of consistency and routine in a child’s life; and explains the importance of the right support system (and where to find it). She tells us that we will feel tired, overwhelmed, and hopeless, but that progress will come—we just have to keep on moving. If you’re stretched, discouraged, or unsure how to help your child heal from trauma, this episode is for you. Healing is still possible, no matter how hopeless it seems. Take the first step by tuning in today. 💬Get In Touch: Send Us A Textparents@speakupforkidspbc.org🚨Need More Resources? 👉Visit Our Website 👉Check Out Our Socials: @speakupforkids 👉Are You Local To Palm Beach? You’re not what happened to you: How to overcome trauma in parenting with Marcia Earhart (Part 1)

Send us Fan Mail “What is RAD?” “How does trauma affect my children?” “What can I do to best support my family without getting burnt out?” — Even in the darkest of storms, the blue sky remains behind the clouds. Traumatic experiences come and go, but what remains is an identity forged through the trials. Today, Benoit Harpey and Brooke Lowry sit down with Marcia Earhart, a grief-counselor, a trauma coach, and co-founder of the Sterling Rose Sanctuary—but most importantly, a mother. While her story is full of challenges and pain, her blue sky remains. So does yours. Marcia now serves others, helping them overcome trauma in their own families. In this episode, she tells her story of conquering trauma in her family; explains what Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) is, and how it affects people; shares practical strategies for building trust and connection despite trauma; and reminds us that no matter how hard it gets, we will get through it. Trauma is not the end of the story for you, and you will overcome it. This episode could be your first step towards healing, and we’d love to be by your side on this journey. Tune in for practical advice, lived experience, and a heart postured in love towards you and your family. This is part one of our conversation with Marcia. In part two, we’ll dive deeper into trauma and the strategies for overcoming it. We’ll also continue exploring the idea of identity through trauma, and how your struggles don’t define you. 💬Get In Touch: Send Us A Textparents@speakupforkidspbc.org🚨Need More Resources? 👉Visit Our Website 👉Check Out Our Socials: @speakupforkids 👉Are You Local To Palm Beach? You’re on Fire, It’s Fine: the unknown keys to parenting teens with self-destructive behaviors with Katie K. May

Send us Fan Mail “How can I help my teen get through self-harm and suicidal behavior?” “Am I harming my teen when I’m trying to help?” “Is healing actually possible?” — The pain, fear, and hopelessness you feel when your teens act out, shut down, or self harm is real. This behavior, though, isn’t manipulative or defiant; it’s survival. Today, Kayla Richerson sits down with Katie K. May, a therapist, speaker, and the bestselling author of You’re on Fire, It’s Fine. Katie explains to us that when our teens express big emotions or behave irrationally, it’s because they feel like they’re on fire, and they’re trying to extinguish it. She tells us that the way to extinguish the fire isn’t always hospitalization; it’s often validation, understanding, and self-regulation. If you struggle with your teen’s behavior, or fear that one day you will, this episode is for you.
