Created/Hosted by Rita Phetmixay (she/they/boo), A.S.W., M.A., Politicized Healing Practitioner, Coach, and Independent Audio Producer. Healing Out Lao'd explores the intersections of Lao diaspora storytelling x healing x tools for sustainability. While this show centers the Lao diaspora experience, anyone can benefit from this resource, especially those in the margins including BIPOC (Black Indigenous Persons of Color), survivors, thrivers, healers, movement builders, and so forth. In order to highlight the nuances of the diverse Lao diaspora experience, HOL casts diverse perspectives of what it means to be a child of refugees while also inspiring a new generation of folx to heal and move forward with their lives. This is one project to expand visions of the overall #LaoHealingMovement.

    E24.2: MOTHER X DAUGHTER RECONCILIATION PART 2
Introducing part 2 of the Mother x Daughter Reconciliation Episode! This conversation is mediated by the one and only Wanda Pathomrit!
Mother and daughter (Vilavanh and Rita) process what it means to be a “good daughter” from each of their viewpoints, what it’s like to grow up in two separate cultural value systems, and how they both will move forward in their relationship.
Together, Rita and Vilavanh come to terms of what it takes to let go of old grudges, disappointment, and hurt. This has been a long time coming and both have equally shared their truths to illuminate a much overshadowed dialogue between refugee parents and their American-born children.

ninalouane ,

Rita is a true healer

Growing up half Lao in majority-white Utah was so isolating and after my dad, who was a refugee from Laos during the Secret War, passed away due to a long-term illness he contracted in the camps turned into cancer, I felt even more disconnected from my Lao side and a large part of myself was lost for many years. This podcast has given me an opportunity to reconnect with that side, explore what it means to be Lao-American in today’s society, and has provided such an powerful reminder that we have community here, we are important, and we have and can achieve really incredible things and heal along the way. Thank you so much for providing this representation.

A must listenn ,

Powerful doesn’t even begin to describe it

This podcast is informative and deeply moving all at once. Can’t recommend enough

Teeheeeeehagaa ,

an amazing gift to the community

Like the title suggests, this podcast really does benefit and shed light on the issues that have remained silenced and overlooked in the Lao and Southeast Asian community.

I hope that anyone listening whether they or just beginning their healing journey or just looking for additional resources can find solace and validation within some of the stories told throughout the episodes.

I highly recommend this podcast!
