    Aly Faber on Gratitude

    Aly Faber on Gratitude

After graduating from Florida State University, I started in the corporate world as a recruiter for high tech companies. I was pretty good at it but the work was not fulfilling to me beyond the financial rewards. Even though I improved many lives by getting people
better jobs, I felt a longing for a more direct connection to people and their life challenges.
I had become a certified Group Exercise Instructor at 17 which led to my love of working
in the gym and wellness arena. Later, I became a devoted Yogi, which is someone who adheres to the yogic lifestyle and philosophy. When my corporate job dissolved in 2003 (I believe I manifested that), I knew I wanted to teach. I went on to become a Certified Yoga Instructor and led yoga classes all over the city for the Crown Athletic Club and several yoga, fitness studios and gyms. People LOVED my hands-on approach and asked me to do private sessions. I also became a Personal Trainer and trained clients in fitness and yoga privately.
A fellow yoga instructor introduced me to one of the Charlotte Hornets star players who wanted private sessions. This led to working with dozens of professional athletes over the years, many in professional basketball.
I sought out all the trainings I could find in specialty populations taught by athletic trainers, Yogis and physical therapists. I thrived in the athletic arena working especially with professional athletes. The players asked me to teach for their Summer Camps for Kids, so I studied developmental disorders and how kids grow. This is where the magic happened. I adored teaching youth about how stretching could prolong athletic endeavors and keep injury free and help them reach their potential. Coaches, schools and teams from all over the city asked me to work with them, and student athlete’s parents wanted me to be their kid's private stretch coach. I got connected to Physical Therapists, Doctors and Athletic Trainers who all recommended me to their patients, clients and teams.

All of this organically grew into what is now THE STRETCH LADY, which is the
nickname that Garrett Shrader – an incredible football athlete from Charlotte Christian who became the starting quarterback for Syracuse and his teammates – coined. I got calls from parents, kids and adults who didn’t know my name, only the moniker.
As my reputation grew, I knew I needed to grow too. That’s where massage school came into play. It was tough keeping up a full-time business and going to school, but it was well worth it! Now I creatively and uniquely mix stretching and massage to create a beautiful fusion that benefits my clients and helps them to be their personal best.

    Equal playing time!

    Equal playing time!

Life skills in amateur sports offers opportunities for athletes to develop essential life skills, such as communication,  goal-setting, and resilience.
These skills are transferable to various aspects of life, including education, career, and personal relationships. So I always will share my thoughts with coaches that winning is not the most important thing for good development and long-term growth is.

Listen and learn.

Had the good fortune of meeting and speaking with Mike on the ice in the Charlotte area. Excellent podcast. Having access to content provided by professional athletes, especially those who’ve won championships at highest levels of competition, can assist in improving all aspects of your life; and you may just be entertained along the way.

Chapter 1

What I have learned so far in chapter 1 is it doesn’t matter what level your at in your craft, mindfulness is a powerful tool for any athlete. Mindfulness helps anyone with their athletic performance weather your a student-athlete, workplace athlete, or more. Mindfulness doesn’t happen overnight - like everything mastery takes practice and you need time to get better at something.
