Hearing By God's Word - EP 67 - Abide, Do Not Strive

In this episode of Hearing By God’s Word, we reflect on the words of Jesus in John 15.4, “Abide in Me, and I in you.” Many people desire growth, change, and fruitfulness in their lives. Yet it is easy to pursue these things through effort, pressure, and striving. We try to become better, do more, and produce results through own strength. But Jesus reveals a different way. He does not call us to strive. He calls us to abide. Abiding is not about doing more. It is about remaining. It is choosing to stay connected to Christ as the source of life. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit by itself, we cannot produce lasting fruit apart from Him. Striving often comes from pressure, fear, or the desire to prove ourselves. It leads to exhaustion and frustration because it depends on human effort. But abiding leads to rest, because it depends on relationship. In this episode, we explore what it means to abide in Christ and how true fruitfulness flows from connection, not performance. As we remain in Him, His life begins to shape us from within. Our thoughts, desires, and actions are formed by His presence. Abiding shifts our focus from what we are trying to produce to who we are connected to. This is where transformation happens. As you listen, take a moment to ask yourself, am I striving to produce fruit, or am I remaining connected to Christ? Let His Word draw you back into a place of rest, where your life flows from relationship with Him.

Hearing By God's Word - EP 66 - Learning To Be Still

In this episode of Hearing By God’s Word, we reflect on the invitation found in Psalm 46.10, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Stillness is often misunderstood. It is not inactivity, passivity, or withdrawal. It is a posture of trust. It is choosing to remain grounded in God even when everything around us demands a reaction. In a world that moves quickly and constantly calls for our attention, it is easy to live from a place of urgency, pressure, and response. We feel the need to explain ourselves, defend ourselves, and take control of situations. Yet God invites us into something different. He calls us to stillness. This stillness is not empty. It is filled with awareness of who God is. It is the place where we recognise His authority, His presence, and His hand at work in our lives. It is where we learn to trust Him beyond what we see or feel in the moment. In this episode, we explore what it means to be still before God and how stillness shapes the way we think, respond, and live. As we learn to be still, we begin to discern His voice more clearly and walk in alignment with His will. Stillness allows the Word of God to move beyond understanding and begin forming our hearts. It shifts us from reaction to surrender, from control to trust. As you listen, take time to pause and ask yourself, am I living from a place of reaction, or am I learning to be still before God?
