Behind the Mic: Honest Answers to Your Content Creation Questions

Send Krystal a Text Message. What happens when you actually reply to my welcome emails? Your questions might turn into an entire podcast episode! That's precisely what happened when a new subscriber sent in some thought-provoking questions about content creation that I knew would benefit everyone in our audience. Starting your content journey can feel overwhelming, particularly when faced with decisions like whether to begin with audio-only or video podcasting. Drawing from my experience of publishing over 1,500 episodes, I share why I recommend starting with whatever format makes you most comfortable. I began with just a $20 microphone (which now sits on my mantle as a reminder of how far I've come), and there's no shame in starting simple. The key is getting started and building confidence before adding complexity. We also dive into crucial strategic questions, such as when to start monetizing your content (hint: make small asks from day one), what consistency really means for different creators, and whether platforms like Patreon are worth exploring. I share candid insights about why I've never used Patreon myself but know creators who've found great success with it. Additionally, I share my favorite content planning system—the PrepEm method—that helps creators integrate content into their lives rather than letting content creation dominate their schedule. Whether you're just starting out or looking to elevate your existing content strategy, this episode offers practical advice without the fluff. Have questions of your own? I genuinely love hearing from you! Reply to my emails, leave a comment, or send me a message. And if you're enjoying the show, please leave a review on Apple Podcasts—I read every single one and might even answer your question in a future episode! Viral Video Success Without Fancy Editing

Send Krystal a Text Message. One creator's journey from consistent posting to viral success demonstrates what's possible when you adopt a long-term approach to content creation. Amy Connell recently shared her YouTube success story, in which her video on lifting weights during perimenopause increased from 50-80 views to over 18,000. What's remarkable? The video featured no fancy editing—just Amy speaking directly to her audience about a topic they were eager to learn about. In our audit of Amy's video, we observe how she effectively utilized chapter markers, keyword-rich descriptions, and compelling calls to action. The high search volume for "perimenopause" (673,000 monthly searches) shows why her content resonated with her intended audience. With 84 heartfelt comments from grateful viewers, Amy demonstrated that it's not about production quality, but delivering value through consistency. This episode challenges the notion that polished editing skills are necessary for success. After publishing over 720 videos, Amy's journey shows that consistency beats perfection. While many creators give up after a few tries, successful ones know content creation is a marathon, not a sprint. Your insights and knowledge are what your audience craves. Begin with what you have, focus on providing value, and trust the process. Ready to overcome your content creation hurdles? 3 Time Management Tools to Avoid Podcast Burnout - My PM25 Talk

Send Krystal a Text Message. Feeling like your podcast is sucking the life out of you? You're not alone. The real problem isn't that you don't have enough time—it's that you're not protecting the time you have for what truly matters. As someone who has published over 1,500 podcast episodes and coached thousands of content creators, I've discovered that sustainable content creation comes down to three powerful time management tools. In this episode, I'm recreating my popular Podcast Movement talk to give you the exact strategies I use to avoid burnout while maintaining a prolific creation schedule. First, I'll show you how to implement a weekly workflow that embraces reality instead of fantasy. We plan as if life won't get in the way, but it always does—dentist appointments, sick kids, work emergencies. Learn how to plan around interruptions instead of being derailed by them. You'll discover the simple calendar system my family uses to protect both personal priorities and content creation time. Then I'll reveal my game-changing PREPM Method (Plan-Record-Edit-Publish-Market)—the only content system you'll ever need. This approach prevents the energy-draining task-switching that leaves most creators exhausted. Instead of asking your brain to be strategic, creative, technical, and promotional all at once, you'll learn how to focus on one type of energy at a time. Imagine sitting down to record and ONLY having to record—no planning, no editing, just pure creative flow. Finally, we'll tackle the mindset shifts needed to maintain a healthy relationship with your content. Sometimes burnout isn't about your system—it's about your approach, your audience, or simply your capacity in this season of life. We'll identify what's truly draining your energy and how to address it. Whether you have five hours a week or fifty to dedicate to your podcast, these tools will help you create consistently without resentment or exhaustion. Download my free PREPM Method Guide at crystalprofit.com/prepm and transform your relationship with content creation today. Your future self (and your audience) will thank you! Podcast Movement 2025: What I Learned Speaking and Why Practical Advice Beats Flashy Growth Stats

Send Krystal a Text Message. Ever wonder what really happens behind the scenes at industry conferences? I'm pulling back the curtain on my Podcast Movement 2025 experience, and honestly, some of it might surprise you. From the uncomfortable headphone situation to the talk that almost didn't happen, this episode is packed with the real, unfiltered truth about speaking at one of podcasting's biggest events. Here's the thing that blew my mind: after delivering my 20-minute talk on avoiding podcast burnout, a woman came up to me and said it was "the only practical talk" she'd heard all day. While other speakers were bragging about their 6,000% growth stats, I chose to focus on something way more important—how to actually sustain your content creation without burning out. And apparently, that's exactly what people desperately needed to hear. But the biggest plot twist? The most valuable moment of the entire conference wasn't even part of the official programming. Someone told me I had "the best reputation in the industry," and it got me thinking about what really matters in this business. Spoiler alert: it's not your download numbers. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by all the "grow your podcast to six figures" advice floating around, this episode is for you. I'm sharing why consistency beats viral moments every single time, plus the behind-the-scenes prep that went into my talk (hint: it wasn't as polished as I wanted, but it worked). You'll also get my honest take on whether Podcast Movement 2026 in NYC is worth the hype. Ready for some real talk about the podcasting industry? Hit play and let's dive into what conferences don't usually tell you—but absolutely should. Want to hear more about my Podcast Movement 2025 experience? Email Marketing for Content Creators: 5 Mistakes Killing Your Open Rates (And How to Fix Them)

Send Krystal a Text Message. Are your emails getting lost in crowded inboxes? After years of helping creators leverage their podcasts and YouTube channels to build thriving email lists, I've identified five common mistakes that can drastically hurt your open rates and connection with your audience.  The first mistake is launching email marketing without clear goals. You need to understand why you're building your list—whether for sponsorships, product launches, or community building. For me, consistent weekly emails serve as a vital touchpoint that fosters lasting relationships. Another key area to focus on is your subject lines, which are often treated as an afterthought yet are crucial for engagement. I recommend generating multiple options for every email and even testing them with AI tools to find the one that will intrigue your audience the most.  Also, be cautious about over-relying on AI to craft your emails. While tools like ChatGPT can assist, outsourcing your voice can lead to generic messages. I've had success in creating authentic communication by starting with handwritten notes to maintain a personal touch. Lastly, every email should include a clear call to action, guiding readers on what steps to take next. Simple engagement tactics, like encouraging replies, can foster deeper connections. Additionally, tracking your email performance is essential. By understanding your baseline metrics and experimenting with improvements, including consistent sending times, you’ll see a significant boost in your open rates. How to Prepare for a Conference Presentation as a Speaker

Send Krystal a Text Message. Preparing a knockout conference presentation doesn't happen by accident. It's a deliberate process that most audiences never see—until now. Join me for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at my preparation journey for Podcast Movement 2025, where I'll be speaking about tools to help creators avoid burnout. Most speakers (myself included) are tempted to jump straight to the fun part—designing beautiful slides in Canva. But as I confess in this episode, that approach is like spending all day at a water park without packing essentials: you'll end up burned and unprepared. Instead, I'm sharing my methodical approach, from creating a detailed timeline to crafting transitions that elevate a good talk to a great one. The secret to my most successful presentations? Two full weeks of daily practice—speaking the words aloud, not just mentally reviewing them. You'll learn how I'm identifying my weak spots (those tricky transitions between sections), using AI to help surface story opportunities, and ruthlessly editing to respect time limits without sacrificing impact. I even share my slightly embarrassing trick for practicing while walking around my neighborhood without looking completely crazy! Whether you're preparing for your first webinar or your twentieth conference keynote, this transparent look at my process will help you work smarter, not harder. The difference between speakers who hold an audience captive and those who watch people check their phones isn't talent—it's preparation. Follow along as I transform my initial outline into a polished presentation, and discover how you can apply these same principles to your next speaking opportunity. "Help! I Recorded My Intro But Can't Record Episode One"

Send Krystal a Text Message. The dreaded publish button. That moment when your finger hovers over the keyboard, second-guessing everything you've created. Sound familiar? Today, I'm walking and talking about the universal fear that plagues nearly every content creator: publishing your first piece. After speaking with countless creators who have their equipment set up perfectly but simply cannot bring themselves to record that first episode, I decided to address this head-on. What's fascinating is how this fear transcends experience levels. Even certified coaches and professional speakers find themselves suddenly at a loss for words when it's just them and the microphone. As one student wrote: "Every time I go to record my first episode, I completely freeze up. I don't know what to say. Does this mean I'm not meant to be a podcaster?" The truth? This happens to EVERYONE. That awkward feeling when you're talking to yourself, questioning if you sound stupid, wondering if anyone will listen—it's not unique to you. What separates successful content creators isn't the absence of these feelings but their willingness to push through them. My advice might sound overly simple, but it works: Record something. Delete it if you hate it. Record again. Keep going until you have a version you can live with. Because content creation isn't about perfection—it's about progress. You're in this for the long game, committed to showing up consistently and improving gradually. Whether you're launching a podcast, YouTube channel, or newsletter, remember that your first piece won't define you. What matters is starting somewhere and keeping going. Join our Consistent Creators Club or check out Proffitt Podcasting if you need support on this journey. The bravest thing any creator can do isn't creating perfect content—it's simply beginning. What's your biggest hurdle to hitting publish? Share your experience or send me a text through Buzzsprout. I'd love to hear which content topics you want me to tackle next!
