Discussing issues of Theology, Bible, and Culture through the ministries of Tulsa Bible Church.
36. Sexuality & Gender, Pt. 5: Image of God
Genesis 1.26-27 is one of the most foundational verses in Scripture to understand God's design for the creation of humankind. Unlike the voices in our secular culture, God's Truth establishes a firm unity, yet distinction between male and female. Join Jared and Daniel for the final episode of Season 3 on Hidden God!
35: Sexuality & Gender, Pt. 4: Gender Dysphoria
Gender Dysphoria is a crippling mental illness now labeled by the Diagnostics and Statistics Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). It has become closely associated with the "Transgender Craze," which is spreading rapidly and specifically with teenage girls. In this episode, Daniel and Jared rely heavily on a book entitled, Irresistible Damage by Abigail Shrier. We hope this helps you understand the troubling aspects of social media as it's related to Gender Dysphoria.
34. Sexuality & Gender, Pt. 3
Have you ever heard of Critical Theory? What about Conflict Theory or Karl Marx? Recently, our colleges and universities have passed hard into Critical Theory and several fields of study that have grown out of it including the topic of this episode: Queer Theory. Join Jared and Daniel as we explain about Queer Hermeneutics and where it came from.
33. Sexuality & Gender, Pt. 2
Last year Carl Trueman published a landmark resource on today's culture called, The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self. He devotes an entire chapter to Sigmund Freud's influence toward the sexual revolution. In this episode, we provide historical background to Freud's debilitating view of one's sexual identity before looking at a broad perspective of homosexuality in the Bible. Enjoy!
32. Sexuality & Gender, Pt. 1
Our culture is witnessing rapid changes in the midst of an ongoing Sexual Revolution. Statistics and trends associated with new sexual orientations are nothing shy of startling. Join Jared and Daniel in this episode as we discuss sexual orientation, the sex culture itself, and the history/philosophy associated with these things.
31. Interpretations of the Resurrection
Today the historicity of the resurrection is basically denied. Modern interpretations do not believe it was an historical event as much as an experience for the disciples or a myth. However, it hasn't always been this way through church history. Join Jared and Daniel for a special episode as we discuss modern and post-modern approaches to the resurrection and how the Truth is actually historical.
I really enjoyed the vulnerability episode about transparency especially in church culture. I’m currently reading a book by Curt Thompson along these lines called “The Soul of Shame” which is fascinating and transformative.
