Go buy comics for cheap! David's grumpy, we read a comment from artist/reviewer Seth Hahne, and then we review Monstress #1 by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda; and Barrier #1 by Brian K. Vaughan, Marcos Martin, and Muntsa Vicente. • Club Book - Hellboy vol. 6, Strange Places is up in the club with us this week. It includes two stories, both that do a good job of helping to define Hellboy's world. Yet again we're discussing how amazing Mike Mignola is. Sort of excited now about finding something that will upset me. Shit, something that will be just mediocre.

Comics and comics and comics. • Club Book - Hellboy vol. 5, Conqueror Worm is on the dance floor and we are swingin' with it, doing the Mashed Potato, every dance you can think of. Yes, we are Whipping and Nae Nae-ing too. This is a big turning point in the story of Hellboy, and this trade is a great demonstration of character work by Mike Mignola as writer, which is occasionally maybe overshadowed by Mike Mignola the artist.

Go over there and buy that stuff. Austin is sick, Frank Miller hates, full stop, he Hates. Well, he doesn't hate giving Superman a huge dick. But whater'ya'gonna'do? We review Superman American Alien #1 by Max Landis, Nick Dragotta, Alex Guimares, and John Workman. • Club Book - Hellboy Right Hand of Doom, Volume 4. This volume has more short stories than the previous, and a nice varied palette of storytelling, both character- and visually-driven. We see Mignola's writing start to gain its finer point, with the focus being shifted, and we also have the most iconic three panels from any comic ever.

Time to invest your money into some great stories. And then, listen to us agonize over what art is and what it's doing to us. Will we survive? Maybe. The art might, so at least we have that. • Club Book - Volume 3 of Hellboy, The Chained Coffin and Others. A book of short comics, and basically there's not a single misstep in any of them. That's hyperbolic, but it is true that the comics are super well done and artistically amazing. We do have minor things we disliked, but yeah. Minor. We love Hellboy.
