    #48: Dr. Marni Reuling

On this episode, I welcome seasoned mom, licensed psychologist, and one my former supervisors during graduate school, Dr. Marni Reuling. Marni served as my supervisor when we were both employed at a youth residential treatment center in Westchester County, NY. Though Marni supervised me during her pregnancy and postpartum period with her now 13-year-old twins, as a supervisee, I was not aware of the perinatal challenges that were going on behind-the-scenes. Marni now specializes in maternal and women’s mental health in her private practice work, but some of my favorite memories with her included having the opportunity to participate in an equine therapy group, yup, that’s therapy with horses, that Marni started at the agency where we worked. Having a supervisor who possessed these unique and engaging styles of support, held a passion for the profession, and who peppered humor and sarcasm into the work were some other bonuses of my time working with Marni. Listen in to all of that and more, next.

#47: Ashlee Adams MSW, LCSW: The Postpartum Stress Center

On this episode, I welcome seasoned mom, licensed clinical social worker, Director of Clinical and Counseling Services and therapist at The Postpartum Stress Center, Ashlee Adams. In addition to working with clients, Ashlee oversees the clinical staff at The Postpartum Stress Center, as well as programming for founder Karen Kleiman’s Training Center. You’ll hear Ashlee share about how Karen, who is a well-known international maternal mental health expert, author, and advocate, founded The Postpartum Stress Center in Pennsylvania in 1988. Since that time, The Postpartum Stress Center has served as a specialty treatment practice for those experiencing emotional health challenges in pregnancy and postpartum and now also offers advanced trainings for perinatal therapists. Ashlee talks through how Karen’s therapeutic intervention, known as “The Art of Holding Perinatal Women in Distress” informs the care that she and her team deliver to moms and partners who are experiencing mood and anxiety disorders. So before we start, let me share with you that my guest today wins the award for the first and hopefully last guest who has been open to making her episode a maternal mental health and true crime mash-up. All of that and more, next.

Highly Recommend

Love hearing from other moms who are going through all of the things. It’s refreshing to be able to relate and feel encouraged. Love all that you are doing and supporting, Motherhood Feels!

Could’ve used this podcast when I was postpartum!

I felt so alone during those early postpartum months, so even though it’s several years later, it’s still very, very therapeutic to hear all of these stories. Keep up the terrific work, Jill!
