Hindsighting

Hyperbole? Perhaps. That being said this is a fun, well examined podcast that celebrates both the Oscars and film in general without taking a cynical or polarizing view. (So far). The hosts do a great job dissecting what makes a film work, and the overall “Theses” of each season is a welcome delight! My only criticism: Stop saying “Needle Drop”.

Ed Klau’s Hindsighting stands out because it treats “did it deserve Best Picture?” as a serious critical question. He talks with other experts to dig into what the Academy rewarded at the time and how those films hold up now. It still has all the fun trivia and nostalgia that make Oscar history enjoyable, but there’s real analysis underneath. This podcast is the kind of show that makes old Oscar wins feel worth debating again, even for this casual movie viewer.

Ed does a really great job bringing on some really brilliant people. If you're a movie buff or wanna learn more about the space, this is a great show to listen to!

If you are fan of movies, as I am, you will really enjoy listening to this discussion of Gladiator, the Best Picture Winner of 2001. Both Ed Klau and his guest, Joe Russo, clearly show their love and knowledge of movies. The conversation focuses on Gladiator, but at the same time, they discuss the pros and cons of the director other directors, other movies of the time period, and their relationship to one another. Well worth the investment of time!
