    EP48: Wie hast Du „The Creators“ entwickelt, Dennis Schmelz?

    DoP Dennis Schmelz erzählt von Entwicklung und Dreharbeiten des YouTube-Formats „The Creators“. (Foto: privat) Ich begrüße im Podcast Filmemacher und DoP Dennis Schmelz. Mit ihm unterhalte ich mich über sein Reality-Format „The Creators“ auf YouTube. Dafür lud Dennis fünf Creator aus den Feldern Foto und Video in seine Heimat Thüringen ein. Dort mussten sie Bildgestaltungschallenges absolvieren. Dennis erzählt mir, wie es zu der Idee kam und welche Herausforderungen die Umsetzung mit sich brachte. Brauchen wir echt noch ein Realityformat aus deutscher Produktion? Ja, brauchen wir. Denn sowas wie „The Creators“ gab’s hier mit Sicherheit noch nicht. Sechs Creator mit sehr unterschiedlichen Skillsets und Persönlichkeiten jagen durch Thüringen auf der Suche nach dem besten Bild, Video oder Reel. Dabei vermitteln sie nicht nur ein Bild dieses wunderschönen Bundeslands, sie vermitteln auch nebenbei Grundlagen der Bildgestaltung und machen Lust aufs Bilder machen. Bildgestaltungstipps Dabei sparen sich die Filmemacher der Serie all die Aspekte, die einem bei den einschlägigen Reality-TV-Formaten auf den Zeiger gehen. Niemand wird vorgeführt, keine Privatsphären werden aufgedröselt. Alle sind nur für eine Sache da, Spaß haben und coole Bilder machen. Man gibt sich gegenseitig Tipps für die Bildgestaltung und die Zuschauenden nehmen das mit.     EP47: Wie erzählst Du das Licht in „American Sweatshop“, Jörg Widmer?

    DoP Jörg Widmer verrät die Lichtgeheimnisse vom Dreh von „American Sweatshop“. (Foto: privat) Vor dem Mikro sitzt diesmal DoP Jörg Widmer und erzählt von Licht und Bild in „American Sweatshop“ unter der Regie von Uta Briesewitz. Jörg verrät uns ein paar Tricks von den Dreharbeiten in Deutschland, die aber Tallahassee in Florida erzählen, welche Heraufsorderungen das für das Licht mitbrachte und warum er LUTs problematisch findet. „American Sweatshop“ ist seit 30. April in den Kinos und könnte aktueller nicht sein. Es geht um Daisy, gespielt von Lilli Reinhart, deren Nebenjob es ist, gemeldete Internetvideos auf Verstoß gegen Plattformregeln zu überprüfen. Daisy wird eines Tages Zeugin eines schlimmen Gewaltakts und macht sich auf die Suche nach der Wahrheit über das Video und den potentiellen Täter.     EP46: Wie nah ging Dir „Vier Minus Drei“, Paul Sprinz?

    DoP Paul Sprinz sprich im Podcast über die Bildgestaltung von „Vier Minus Drei“. (Foto: privat) Diesmal freue ich mich über DoP Paul Sprinz, der mir von der Bildgestaltung bei „Vier Minus Drei“ berichtet. Regisseur Adrian Goiginger verfilmte den gleichnamigen Besteller von Barbara Pachl-Eberhart. Paul erzählt von der Auflösung ohne Master, wie er Vergangenheit und Gegenwart visuell koderite und wie und das Team mit der bewegenden Geschichte umgingen. Erneut findet sich DoP Paul Sprinz an der Seite seines kreativen Partners Adrian Goiginger ein. Diesmal hat sich Goiginger wieder einen nicht einfachen Stoff ausgesucht. Beide Kreativen aber setzen die Geschichte um Verlust und Trauer zu jeder Minute traumwandlerisch sicher um. Vielmehr geben alle Kreativen der Hauptdarstellerin Valerie Pachner die Freiheit, diese emotionale, aber niemals sentimentale, Geschichte zu erzählen. Pachner ist unfassbar gut!     EP45: Wie hast Du „Das geheime Stockwerk“ gestaltet, Daniela Knapp?

    DoP Daniela Knapp war für die Bildgestaltung bei „Das geheime Stockwerk“ verantwortlich. (Foto: privat) Erneut nimmt DoP Daniela Knapp hinter dem Mikro Platz und erzählt von der Bildgestaltung bei „Das geheime Stockwerk“. Der Film von Norbert Lechner läuft seit dem 12. März im Kino. Daniela erzählt uns von den Dreharbeiten in den beiden Hotelmotiven, wie sie die großen Glasflächen im Foyer für Tag und Nacht in den Griff bekam und welches Fenster ihr besonderen Spaß bereitete. Einmal in der Zeit zurück reisen und Dinge zum Guten wenden. Wer träumt davon nicht? Der 12-jährige Karli findet sich nach einer Aufzugfahrt im elterlichen Hotel plötzlich im Jahr 1938 wieder. Hier trifft er auf das jüdische Mädchen Hannah und den Schuhputzerjungen Georg. Gemeinsam müssen sie Georg vom Vorwurf des Diebstahls reinwaschen. Bei der abendlichen Rückkehr in die Gegenwart erfährt Karli immer mehr über die Nazizeit und über die Gefahr, in der Georg und Hannah schweben. Als Daniela mir im Herbst 2024 im Rahmen unseres Podcastgesprächs über „Treasure – Familie ist ein fremdes Land“ von dem Stoff „Das geheime Stockwerk“ erzählte, war ich sicher, sie müsse mit dem Bericht erneut in den Podcast kommen. Glpücklicherweise hat es funktioniert. Mit und für Kinder Daniela berichtet von den Drearbeiten. Die zwei Hotelmotive, die das Filmhotel erzählen, standen in Österreich, die Innenmotive wurden größtenteils in Luxemburg gedreht. Da die Kinder nur wenige Stunden am Set sein durften, wurden die Tage wie üblich aufgeteilt. Zu Gast sind die Oberbeleuchterinnen Lisa Maria Müller und Sina Blume. Sie erzählen mir, wie sie ihre Projekte angehen, warum gute Teams so wichtig sind und warum es noch nicht selbstverständlich ist, als FLINTA-Person das Licht-Gewerk anzuführen. Das neue Jahr beginnt mit gleich zwei Gästinnen. Wer im September 2022 auf dem CineCongress 2022 war, kennt vielleicht Oberbeleuchterin Lisa Maria Müller schon. Damals durfte ich sie zum Thema „Lichtsetzen: Schnelle Tools für ein stimmiges Bild“ live auf der Bühne des Kinos an der HFF München interviewen. Sina Blume ist erst seit kurzem Oberbeleuchterin, hat aber schon einige Projekte in dieser Position umgesetzt. Ich wollte wissen, wie beide überhaupt in die Branche kamen und welche Ausbildungen sie vorher absolvierten. Wege zum Licht Beide fanden nämlich über das Kamerastudium zu ihrer Leidenschaft für das Licht. Die Wege danach sind sehr unterschiedlich, aber auch sehr spannnend. Ich frage sie, wie sie ihre Arbeit angehen, wie wichtig ihre Teams sind und welche Projekte beide zuletzt umgesetzt haben. Der Klassiker der Gothic Novel wurde von Netflix neu aufgelegt und ist dort in voller, opulenter Pracht seit dem 7. November 2025 zu sehen. Das Jahr neigt sich dem Ende entgegen. Wie versprochen habe ich einen besonderen Gast in der Dezemberfolge eingeladen. Es ist DoP Dan Laustsen, der nach 2022 erneut in den Podcast zurück kehrt. Damals sprachen wir über „Nightmare Alley“. Del Toro ist ja hinlänglich dafür bekannt, sehr genaue Vorstellungen über die Gestaltung der Details seiner wichtigsten Gewerke zu haben. Bei „Frankenstein“ stand schon früh fest, welche Farbwelten er bespielen möchte. Detailbesessen Regisseur del Toro erzählt die Geschichte Mary Shelleys in zwei Akten aus zwei Perspektiven. Nach dem Prolog in der Arktis erzählt zunächst Victor seine Version der Geschichte. Zentral dabei dessen Kindheitstrauma durch den Tod seiner Mutter. Danach ergreift die Kreatur das Wort und vertieft die Erzählung auf unerwartet emotionale Weise. DoP Dan Laustsen und Regisseur Guillermo del Toro drehten „Frankenstein“ diesmal komplett im Large Format auf der ARRI ALEXA 65.
