    For Episode 71 of The HipHopHumboldt Podcast, I had the privilege of being able to interview Dr. Butch Ware, California's Green Party gubernatorial candidate! It was an amazing conversation. We talked about his VP run, his current campaign policies from homelessness to ICE, local issues such as Indigenous sovereignty and free speech on campus, and we even got into a conversation about Hip Hop! Some people might not know he is one half of a group called Slum Prophecy. The music is on point and well worth a listen! We also talked about the diss tracks he has put out on this campaign trail, and the roots and power of Hip Hop as an art form. Dr. Ware was dropping gems and knowledge throughout the podcast episode. This episode is absolutely worth your time, give it a listen! If we can get Dr. Ware into that governor seat, we can literally change the world. Imagine a world where Dr .Ware is the governor of California and then went on to be the President of the United States. We might actually be able to turn this thing around.     Episode 69 - OccupyCalPoly

    For Episode 69 of The HipHopHumboldt Podcast, I had the privilege to interview 2 students from Cal Poly Humboldt who were willing to speak about the last 2 sit in protests that happened in February 2026 on campus in Arcata. We spoke about the Ethical Investment Declaration, how the first sit-in went, how the second sit-in went, and a lot about the failures of the University to listen to and honor the demands of the students, including ensuring none of the schools investments are tied up with companies that are involved with war or imperialism. The students also have demanded that the University implement a Sanctuary policy, and they are also fighting on behalf of the Teamsters Union who was striking for better wages. It was amazing to hear first hand accounts of how the protests went, and it was striking to hear how poorly Cal Poly Humboldt has handled the situation. Many thanks to the brave students who are standing up for what’s right, especially the students that were willing to come on and give their accounts.     For Episode 68 of The HipHopHumboldt Podcast, I had the pleasure of interviewing local activist and community builder, Rick Toledo! Rick has been doing great work for our community on campus and off. He has been organizing with the Humboldt chapter of Students For A Democratic Society at Cal Poly for the last few years, and we spoke about some interesting topics! Rick talked to us about the Occupy Cal Poly movement and what happened on campus last year when the students occupied Siemens Hall in solidarity against the genocide that has been happening in Palestine. We talked about the law enforcement response, with law enforcement responding from up and down the state to slow down the movement. spoke about what SDS Humboldt has been doing since, including how they have continued the movement to get Cal Poly Humboldt to divest from military industrial corporations. In the second hour, we talked about quite a few topics including the beautiful work our friends from Humboldt 4 Palestine have done for our community, and we also spoke about other activism and groups that have been making things happen in Humboldt County. To end the episode, we discussed the newly formed Humboldt Anti-War Committee and the work that has begun to push local governments to divest from war and imperialism. This was a great episode and it was my pleasure to interview Rick and have him in the studio!     For Episode 66 of The HipHopHumboldt Podcast, I had the pleasure of interviewing Brad Zerman, owner and CEO of Seven Point, a dispensary/lounge located in Danville, Illinois! It was great to talk to Brad and hear what is happening with the cannabis industry out in the Midwest. Brad and I spoke about his dispensary, and his team's focusing on building relationships in his community to foster more normalization of cannabis. Seven Point sells vinyls at the dispensary to promote the relationship between music and cannabis. They are selling flower and cannabis products that are associated with hip hop artists so that the community can have access to products cultivated by the top emcees from coast to coast! They are selling specialty items like Rap Snacks and more to further that unique collaboration. He and his team are tailoring a great experience for the community. The lounge is being used to support local events, artists, food, and they even have comedy shows! Brad and his team have serious vision and are elevating Seven Point into something that the whole community can enjoy. I was really impressed with the entire offering that Brad discussed during the interview. Brad even took some time to show some of the cannabis products and snacks that are available! It was amazing to hear the positive things that the Voice Of The Youth Project has been doing for kids and school in The Bay Area. Amari J talked about some real situations including some children that we've lost way too soon. We also discussed the work he has been doing related to missing youth. Fortunately I am able to report that one of the youths we spoke about, Katie Hong, has been found and reunited with her family! This is very important work Amari J is doing down in The Bay and we need more community leaders like Amari J from coast to coast.
