    Hoksheda means "Shield"

    What does the name Hoksheda mean and where does it come from? Our host received his spiritual name in a traditional naming ceremony when he was young after a life-changing event took place. The full Dakota name is "Wahachunka Hoksheda" which means "Great Shield."

His great-grandfather was a holy man and held a rich knowledge of Indigenous customs and practices. It was from this man that Hoksheda’s true education began – not from a formal education, but from the oral traditions of his family.
