Alex is the protégé of our previous guest Fr Hans Boersma (interviewed here and here), Assistant Research Professor of Theology at Baylor, and director of the Catechesis Institute. In this conversation, Alex returns to the sources of early Christian wisdom to explain how the saints and martyrs made disciples, and what their own formation entailed. In this episode, Fr David Craven joins the podcast to talk about a new house of formation for men training to be Catholic Anglican priests at Emmanuel Theological College. Calum asks his new training incumbent about discerning a call to the priesthood and becoming Catholic, and Fr David contends that God is preparing to bring about an Evangelical Catholic movement in the Church of England. Clinton asks Fr David about the mission and vision for Ladyewell, and what sort of associations we should be joining if we want to contribute to Catholic renewal in the Church. In this episode, Calum and Clinton conclude their discussion of E.L. Mascall’s the Importance of Being Human. They discuss the relationship between nature and supernature, the fall of man, and God’s call for everyone to enter into union with him through baptism, communion, and faith in Jesus Christ. Mascall follows Augustine in arguing that man’s purpose is to see and to know, to know and to love, to love and to praise God, and God can only be known through membership in the Body of Christ.
