    Mark 8 - 9 Explained | Fully Seeing Jesus or Only Partially? | Bible Study

    This week we reach one of the most significant turning points in Mark’s Gospel. A blind man receives his sight, Peter finally declares that Jesus is the Messiah, and three disciples witness the extraordinary moment we know as the Transfiguration. Yet running through all of these stories is a surprising theme: Jesus seems to reveal Himself gradually. Why does the blind man see in stages? Why does Jesus tell His disciples not to tell anyone He is the Messiah? Why does Peter get the right answer but still completely misunderstand Jesus’ mission? And what does it mean when Jesus tells His followers to take up their cross and follow Him? Together we’ll explore how Mark uses these stories to show that recognising who Jesus is often happens before we fully understand what kind of Messiah He has come to be. As Peter, James and John begin to see more clearly, we’re challenged to consider whether we’re still open to Jesus revealing more of Himself to us today.     Mark 7-8 Explained | When Those Closest to Jesus Miss Him | Bible Study

    This week we continue our journey through Mark’s Gospel and encounter a fascinating question running through chapters 7 and 8: why do the people who should know better keep missing what others can see? The Pharisees know the Scriptures but struggle to recognise Jesus. The disciples have witnessed miracle after miracle and still don’t fully understand Him. Yet a Gentile woman from outside Israel sees something that many of the religious leaders miss entirely. Along the way we explore the tradition of the elders, Jesus’ challenge to external religion, the remarkable faith of the Syrophoenician woman, the healing of the deaf man, the feeding of the four thousand, and Jesus’ warning about the yeast of the Pharisees and Herod. At the centre of it all is one simple word: Ephphatha — “Be opened.” Perhaps the greatest challenge in these chapters is not whether we know enough about Jesus, but whether we’re still open to what He wants to show us.
