We are more connected now than ever before, but most of us still struggle with feelings of loneliness and isolation. Hope for the Lonely host Charlotte Donlon believes loneliness loses some of its power when we bring it into the light, so she writes and talks about different angles of loneliness and belonging and how they intersect with the Christian faith. Episode 36: An Audio Essay: How Observing Advent and Following the Church Year Make Me Feel Less Alone

Episode 36: An Audio Essay: How Observing Advent and Following the Church Year Make Me Feel Less Alone

In this episode, Charlotte reads an essay she wrote about how the church years helps her feel less alone.

As we engage more deeply with the ancient streams of art and faith, how they inform one another, and how all of this can create profound new possibilities for belonging, we need ways to respond.

Through her work as a spiritual director for writers, artists, and those all along the belief-and-unbelief spectrum, Charlotte Donlon explores how belonging intersects with the contemplative life.

This essay was originally published in Christianity Today in 2019. This audio essay is also going to be live on Charlotte's Our Faith in Writing podcast.

Grateful

Thank you, Charlotte, for teaching us all through this podcast that loneliness wears many faces but there’s only one way to build a foundation for find the feeling of intimacy we all long for!

Rich

Neither too wide nor too narrow, this podcast densely packs expandable reflection. It acknowledges the complexity of loneliness enough to avoid the trite and formulaic, yet moves through its shades quickly enough for many to feel acknowledged. There is indeed at least a bit of relief from the loneliness in just hearing it talked about with grace, care, wisdom, and, even a listening ear.

SandyCoop ,

Vulnerable and Informative

I’m so impressed with the combination of vulnerability and transparency along with the level of helpful information about loneliness. An excellent podcast and very much worth your time!
