138 – Jean Harlow: Drew Barrymore's Connections to the Iconic Star

Decades before Drew Barrymore was given the title of “blonde bombshell”, another iconic star was associated with that moniker. This week we are joined by writer and historian Sophia D’Aurelio Adair to discuss the original Plantinum Blonde, Jean Harlow. We gush over the process of being researchers & collectors and go through a list of interesting parallels our favorite subjects share (like their Pisces star signs and unconventional relationships with their mom-managers). Plus we get into the Barrymore co-star connections, our suspected homage to Ms. Harlow in Batman Forever, and their shared responsibility for ruining the eyebrows of several generations of ladies. We hope you enjoy this fun episode about the woman Drew herself once called “a dynamic movie star and comedienne.” Find Sophia online: Vitaphone Zone and Harlow HeavenJoin our Patreon for exclusive episodes & more: patreon.com/howdoyoudrew Visit our website for episode galleries & links: howdoyoudrew.com Follow the show's Instagram to connect with us & other Drewbies: @howdoyoudrewpod Visit our Drew Barrymore virtual museum: thedrewseum.com Follow The Drewseum on Instagram for more Drew content: @drewseum Subscribe to stay in the loop: How Do You Drew newsletter

137 – UK Premiere, June 1995: Drew Barrymore's Wild Child Magazine Feature

If there’s one thing that most Drewbies can agree on, it’s that 1995 was one of the peak Drew Barrymore eras! This week we’re taking you through an incredible magazine article from that year. The UK Premiere June 1995 cover feature was written by frequent Drew-collaborator Chris Heath and is jam packed with interesting tidbits (like which New Kids on the Block member she once kissed and her poem about love & poo). We’ll go backstage at a Hole show, get into shocking stories from Drew’s time in treatment, and learn new details about her divorce from Jeremy Thomas. Plus there are breadcrumbs about some projects that never came to be, like a Batman Forever Sugar action figure and another film with director Tamra Davis (co-starring a beloved SNL alum). Accompanied by truly iconic and colorful photos taken by David LaChapelle, this magazine feature is one not to be missed! This week we're recapping the final episodes of Santa Clarita Diet season 1, as Sheila experiences some eye-popping changes, Joel finally tracks down the elusive Serbian book, and the family gets a potential shot at a cure. Things get increasingly chaotic and feral, all the way down to Drew's hairstyle! Throughout our episode, we're enjoying the hotness of Drew Barrymore in Sheila's “ultimate form,” still cracking up over Timothy Olyphant's slightly unhinged performance, and trying to remember if dangling threads get wrapped up in season 2. 132 – Diary: Drew Barrymore's 2001 Episode of the MTV Show

You think you know, but you have no idea. Remember back in the early 2000s when MTV's amazing documentary style show Diary took you into the every day lives of your favorite celebs? Our girl Drew Barrymore had an incredible episode that aired in October 2001 and we finally dusted off a VHS tape containing the program to have it digitized! We're discussing Drew's struggles during the aftermath of 9/11, her sweet visit with then-husband Tom Green, and the tour of her fab Flower Films offices. Also included are fun appearances by her dogs, coworkers, and friends (including Molly Shannon), making it mandatory viewing for all Drewbies! This is the Diary of Drew Blyth Barrymore Green. 131 – Years in Review: 1990–1991, Teenage Drew Barrymore's Fight to Come Back in Hollywood

A blonde '90s hair flip. Cigarette-in-hand red carpet appearances. A supposedly "washed-up" former child star working behind the counter of a coffee shop and living on her own at 15 years old. It's time to dive into one of the most pivotal and often overlooked periods of Drew Barrymore's life. Between 1990 and 1991, a newly sober and newly emancipated teenage Drew was rebuilding from the ground up: attending AA meetings, releasing her bestselling memoir Little Girl Lost, taking odd jobs to pay the bills, and fighting to be taken seriously as an actress again. Along the way, she collected a few tattoos, a couple boyfriends, a driver's license she may or may not have immediately lost, and roles in future cult classics like Poison Ivy and Guncrazy. Drew's big comeback was just around the corner! As she put it in 1991: "I just hope that I make the right choices and get to be an actress for the rest of my life."
