Your story, your superpower, with Claire Winter

In this episode, I chat with the wonderfully insightful Claire Winter — a journalist turned entrepreneur, content strategist, podcast agency co-founder, and the creative force behind The Creatrix Journey.   Claire's story is one of remarkable reinvention, from her early days at ITN, to running a magazine from her 'shedquarters' with three children under five, to building not one but two businesses rooted in creativity and authentic storytelling!   During our conversation, Claire opens up about her experience of perimenopause and burnout, and how losing her words for a time led her to discover the transformative power of nature, movement, and reconnecting with her own creativity. We also dig into what it really means to stand out in an AI-saturated world. Claire's perspective here is both refreshing and galvanising: your stories, your voice, and your lived experience are your greatest differentiators.   There's so much practical gold here too, from how to overcome the dreaded "visibility hangover" that can follow putting yourself out there, to actionable first steps for anyone feeling reticent about sharing their voice; so keep your notebook to hand!   Enjoy the show!   Connect with Claire: winteraudio.co.uk (just mention this show to get 10% off the price of the 'starting a podcast' service!) creatrixjourney.com   Today's sponsor: Today's episode is proudly sponsored by Biscuit Communications. Clean ethics and good hair days, with Carla Saull

In today's episode, I chat with the wonderful Carla Saull, founder of Good Wash Day — a brand creating beautifully crafted, ethically made hair towels that have found their way into homes across no less than 49 countries worldwide.   In our conversation, Carla walks us through the extraordinary path led to her launching her own business at 51. I think you're going to love to hear how every seemingly unconnected chapter of her life quietly laid the foundation for everything that followed.   We delve into the story behind Good Wash Day itself; how a pandemic-inspired decision to stop straightening her hair led Carla to spot a gap in the market, and how she built her business from scratch with a non-negotiable commitment to UK manufacturing, organic fabrics and B Corp certification — even when those principles made the commercial road harder.   She relays her experience of appearing on Dragon's Den experience, how she blends work and personal life, navigating burnout, and the unexpected ways that having a purpose-driven business can support mental health and wellbeing.   So for anyone dreaming of starting something of your own, wondering if it's 'too late,' or looking for inspiration around building something extraordinary on your own terms, Carla's story is one that you need to hear!   Enjoy the show!   Connect with Carla: Insta, FB & Youtube: @GoodWashDay https://www.goodwashday.com     Today's sponsor: Today's episode is proudly sponsored by Biscuit Communications. Rediscovering yourself in motherhood, with Rebecca Hogan

In today's episode, I chat with the wonderful Rebecca Hogan, whole-self life coach and newly published author.   From corporate marketing to London ad agencies, through a deeply personal fertility journey, retraining as a reflexologist and ultimately discovering coaching during the space that COVID unexpectedly gifted her — Rebecca's story is as fascinating as it is inspiring, and a powerful reminder that every chapter of our lives, even the difficult ones, can become the foundation for something meaningful.   We explore the concept of 'matrescence' — the identity shift that comes with becoming a mother — and why society's expectation that we simply 'bounce back' can be such a quick route to burnout and mum guilt. In fact Rebecca makes a compelling case for why motherhood is actually a creative, expansive time; an opportunity to ask ourselves who we are now, and how we want our lives to feel.   There's real wisdom in Rebecca's distinction between surviving and thriving — between living on autopilot and genuinely checking in with what matters most. We also celebrate the publication of Rebecca's debut book, Me to We: How to Rediscover Yourself and Truly Thrive in Motherhood — a three-part guide covering the truths of modern motherhood, rediscovering who you are as an evolving person, and stepping into your future self.   So if you're in the thick of early motherhood, feeling overwhelmed by all the plates you're spinning, or simply craving a little more joy and intention in your days, you'll leave this conversation feeling genuinely uplifted, and with plenty to reflect on.   Enjoy the show!   Connect with Rebecca: Insta: @RebeccaHogan_ Website: https://rebeccahogan.co.uk/   Today's sponsor: Today's episode is proudly sponsored by Fearless Girls Club: Head to fearlessgirlsclub.co.uk and enter code HOW10 to get 10% off a 3-month subscription.   Connect with Jo:   HDSDI Free Stuff: https://howdoesshedoit.life/free-stuff/   HDSDI mailing list sign-up: https://howdoesshedoit.kartra.com/page/NewsletterSignUp   HDSDI Networking: https://howdoesshedoit.life/networking/    HDSDI Membership: https://howdoesshedoit.life/membership/ Email me to book a 1:1 Discovery call: jo@howdoesshedoit.life Follow me on Instagram to continue the conversation and get updates about the podcast:https://www.instagram.com/howdoesshedoitlife/

Finding joy in the everyday, with Cat Googe

In today's episode, I chat with the wonderful Cat Googe, a conscious joy coach, laughter yoga facilitator, and self-proclaimed "Joy Queen" who is on a mission to help people reclaim joy as a daily practice rather than a distant destination.   In our conversation, Cat shares how she transitioned from a teaching career that left her feeling energetically mismatched and burnt out, to discovering laughter yoga at a well-being day - a moment that would completely change the direction of her life.   We delve deeply into Cat's joy philosophy, and how it doesn't have to be reserved for big occasions like weddings – and exists just as much in the tiniest day to day moments too. She conveys how building our "joy muscle" through neuroplasticity can help us weather life's challenges, and why joy and sadness can absolutely coexist.   It was also fascinating to hear Cat's insight into intentional laughter and how our bodies don't know the difference between "real" and "pretend" laughter — we still release endorphins and lower cortisol either way. She also shares her bold journey into the festival circuit, which has now become a core part of her business strategy, bringing laughter yoga to thousands of people across the UK.   So if you're feeling stuck in a career that no longer serves you, or simply curious about how to pro-actively cultivate happiness, Cat's heart-led guidance offers a refreshing reminder that we can choose joy right here, right now.   Enjoy the show!   Connect with Cat: Website: https://catgooge.com  Instagram: @CatGoogeOfficial   Today's sponsor: Today's episode is proudly sponsored by Caroline Kulik of Eden Lane Interiors.    Check out her website https://edenlaneinteriors.com/ Caroline is offering a free 30-minute discovery call to HDSDI listeners, just head over to the website to book. Building movement into everyday life, with Wendy Welpton

In today's episode, I chat with Wendy Welpton, the founder of Reclaim Movement, author of 'Move Well for Life,' and host of the 'Make Movement Matter' podcast.   Wendy shares her powerful evolution from a desk-bound career in fashion and wine marketing to becoming a movement specialist - a transformation sparked by a running injury at 40 that left her with chronic pain for four years. She reflects honestly about how this challenging experience led her to discover natural movement and the revolutionary idea that it's not just the hour we spend exercising that matters, but how we move throughout our entire day.   Wendy explains how our modern world has stripped away the natural movement patterns our bodies are designed for, and offers practical strategies to reclaim them without adding extra time to our already busy days.   Wendy's concept of 'stacking' really stood out for me - adding movement to tasks we're already doing, and how simple, playful adjustments transform everyday activities into opportunities to build strength, mobility and resilience for the future.   So whether you're dealing with pain, feeling stuck in sedentary patterns, or simply want to set yourself up for a healthier future, Wendy's down-to-earth advice and empowering perspective provide a roadmap to making movement matter in ways that fit seamlessly into real life.   Enjoy the show!   Connect with Wendy: www.Reclaimmovement.co.uk including links for Wendy's book 'Move Well for life' Instagram @reclaim.movement Podcast: Search for: MakeMovementMatter   Today's sponsor: Today's episode is proudly sponsored by Caroline Kulik of Eden Lane Interiors.    Check out her website https://edenlaneinteriors.com/ Caroline is offering a free 30-minute discovery call to HDSDI listeners, just head over to the website to book. Building businesses and breaking barriers, with Robyn Currie

In today's episode, I chat with the founder of The Business Nest, Robyn Currie, who shares her remarkable entrepreneurial journey from leaving school at the age of 16, to building multiple successful businesses before turning 30.   In our conversation, Robyn talks of the early start to her career, including launching a business as a side hustle at just 19, and how it eventually led to running a thriving family-friendly café for nearly 10 years.    We also explore how Robyn has gone about building The Business Nest into a vibrant networking community over the last three years, creating the supportive environment she herself was seeking post-pandemic. She also shares the realities of being self-employed whilst navigating motherhood, including why she deliberately brings her children to workshops to show other women that they too can do the same.    Robyn's story offers inspiration for anyone navigating their own entrepreneurial journey; if a major business pivot feels overwhelming, if you're searching for your community, or if you're wondering how to balance business growth with family life, her candid nature and grounded advice provide reassurance that moving forward is possible, even when it feels daunting.   Enjoy the show!   Connect with Robyn: Insta: @TheBusinessNest www.TheBusinessNest.co.uk     Today's sponsor: Today's episode is proudly sponsored by Caroline Kulik of Eden Lane Interiors.    Check out her website https://edenlaneinteriors.com/ Caroline is offering a free 30-minute discovery call to HDSDI listeners, just head over to the website to book. Balancing corporate life with creative passion, with Caroline Kulik

In today's episode, I chat with Caroline Kulik, the founder of Eden Lane Interiors, who shares her fascinating experience of building a thriving business whilst still maintaining her corporate career.   Caroline conveys the pivotal moment when she realised that no one was going to hand her permission to create a different life, and that instead, she would have to take control and make that change herself, by making a business out of her passion. She describes the reality of managing both worlds as 'walking a very tight rope with a very fragile balance,' offering an honest perspective that moves beyond any superwoman narrative.   We explore how Caroline worked on her mindset to navigate the inevitable moments when it all feels too much, including developing a clear sense of purpose for her business and building a support network to lift her up on the days when self-belief wavers. She also shares how the lockdown period became a crucial turning point, when she enrolled on an interior design course, and discovered the profound impact the subsequent changes had on her family's wellbeing.   There's so much more here too; from Caroline's design philosophy, to practical interior design tips, and even a gorgeous sensory visualisation exercise. So whether you're dreaming of starting your own venture, navigating the balance between security and passion, or simply looking to transform your living space, Caroline's honesty and practical wisdom offer beautiful encouragement for the journey ahead.   Enjoy the show!   Connect with Caroline: www.edenlaneinteriors.com Instagram: @EdenLaneInteriors   Today's sponsor: Today's episode is proudly sponsored by our wonderful guest herself; Caroline Kulik of Eden Lane Interiors.    Check out her website https://edenlaneinteriors.com/ Caroline is offering a free 30-minute discovery call to HDSDI listeners, just head over to the website to book. Value led entrepreneurship, with Sam Chetwood

In today's episode, I chat with the founder of children's shoe fitting business CeCe & Me, Sam Chetwood, who shares how a frustrating shopping experience sparked a remarkable business idea: to create a more supportive, relaxed environment that prioritizes children's foot health, whilst actually making the process of selecting shoes an enjoyable one for all involved!   We start off as Sam opens up about her 15 years in corporate and financial PR, and the struggle for balance she came to face after returning from maternity leave - feeling pulled in two directions and unable to give her best either at work or at home. We learn that as a result, it was during her second maternity leave that Sam made the bold decision to leave corporate life, even without a clear plan for what came next.   As she reflects on building CeCe & Me from the ground up, we delve into the importance Sam places on her guiding business principles, and how building something of her own became a powerful way to show her daughters that they too could achieve anything they set their minds to.   So whether you're contemplating leaving corporate life, searching for your entrepreneurial path, or simply looking for encouragement on your business journey, Sam's honest reflections and deep authenticity offer inspiration for anyone ready to make a leap.   Enjoy the show!   Connect with Sam: https://www.ceceandme.co.uk Insta: https://www.instagram.com/ceceandmehq FB: https://www.facebook.com/ceceandmehq Email: hello@ceceandme.co.uk   Today's sponsor: Juliette Rivett at West Surrey Accountants: www.westsurreyaccountants.com quoting 'HDSDI'   Connect with Jo: HDSDI Free Stuff: https://howdoesshedoit.life/free-stuff/   HDSDI mailing list sign-up: https://howdoesshedoit.kartra.com/page/NewsletterSignUp   HDSDI Networking: https://howdoesshedoit.life/networking/    HDSDI Membership: https://howdoesshedoit.life/membership/ Email me to book a 1:1 Discovery call: jo@howdoesshedoit.life Follow me on Instagram to continue the conversation and get updates about the podcast: https://www.instagram.com/howdoesshedoitlife/
