How GPR can help autonomous vehicles know where they are

An autonomous vehicle requires two major data points to function: perception and positioning. To help make the latter more reliable, GPR uses ground positioning radar to build a database of what roads look like beneath the surface. Turns out, this data is like a thumbprint that tells the car exactly where it is, even in pitch darkness or when weather makes seeing other cars impossible.
