    Big River Is High - Lakes Are Looking Good

    We call it as we see it. The current is swift on the Mississippi and the River Dam is wide open to let the water go south.  Lots of rain and cool temperatures has the fishing on hold. However, the lakes of Iowa are now warming up with Bluegill and Crappie and GREAT fishing in many of them. We talk with Kimberly Miller at Little River Reservoir in Decatur County of far southern Iowa.  An inviting little lake that you might want to consider. Larry has the latest on what lures to take with you.  He also details a truck unloading issue that may go to the National Labor Relations Board. Finally, and we mean finally, Roberta is heading to Florida.  But not before hitting the Big Walleye Sign while joy riding with her girlfriend.   Sort of a sloppy family situation.  Larry is not happy with Bob.  However, Roberta is gone an Bob is exceptionally pleased with that outcome.     River Is Rising - Mushroom Hunting - Mother's Day - Roberta Stalks Workers

    The Mississippi at Guttenberg is rising from heavy rains.  Roller Dam is open to allow trash and trees to float on by.  Jamie's Landing 615 Barge is out but water is swift. Some fish being caught in backwaters.  Catfish bite is starting.  Trout fishing in streams is good to excellent. We talk about what women would like for Mother's Day and how to get your partner to join you in outdoor adventures.  Meredith is an Outdoor Professional with great ideas for what you can do as an outdoor enthusiast this year. Yes, Roberta is still here and she is expanding her domain.  Lots of trees, shrubs, bedding plants as well as garden supplies are all in and ready for warm days and sunshine.  Roberta is a "window-peeker" and proud of it. The last segment of the podcast is rated "SIR" for "Simply Irresistible" but there are some visualizations you may wish to avoid.  Roberta Petronella UR BAINE is our girl.

    Transitioning to Spring Fishing

    The Mississippi River at Guttenberg is great for mid April with water in the mid 50 degree range.  Fishing may take some work but we've got the information on what is biting and what may come as we get warmer spring weather.   The river is predicted to rise slightly with recent rains.   Bob is recovering from Big Tent Sale last weekend.   Larry is jovial and thankful Benny is fishing Roberta is in LOVE.  Catfish Al is her MAN.  She compares him to a vegetable. Not what I expected her to say!  She is leaving a little mystery in their affair. The Floral Season is here.  Murrays Outdoors has seeds, sets, decorations, soil and amendments with the hanging baskets coming soon.     Last Week for Big Walleye Females -Water level dropping

    Several Fishing Tournaments on Upper Mississippi River this weekend.   Murrays Outdoors has a HUGE tent sale on Friday-Saturday and Sunday. We check in with Landing 615 about the fishing barge below Dam 10. Wild Turkey Season Starts Today for Supervised young hunters.   Nate Johnson with Iowa DNR in Dubuque County has all the facts about licenses, camo, safety, youth hunting and the Wiley bird himself.  Did you know hens can have beards.  Roberta has one... We also meet Roberta Urbain (pronounced Ur BANE)  She will be commandant of the Gardening and Floral part of Murray's Outdoors.  Get to know Roberta, she will make you appreciate your partner.     Snow Melting - River Rising -Fish Spawning

    The Big River at Guttenberg, Iowa is going to twelve feet and is being chilled by melting snow in northern tributaries.  Fishing has been spectacular some days but this is not one of them. Bob Urbain from Murray's Outdoors, GM, CEO, COO and CAH, says the best fishing is out of the current. Jamie on Landing 615 Fishing Barge confirms it. Larry and I have a great conversation that may include a marriage. We also have a wonderful interview with Mike Posantski, biologist with Iowa DNR based at the Big Springs hatchery.  Trout are being stocked weekly in lakes and streams across NE Iowa.   He has a lot of interesting facts.     Walleye Are Back! Northern Pike - Excellent

    Fishermen on the Upper Mississippi River were HAULING in BIG Walleyes a week ago and then the snow melted and cooled the river water.  Fish quit biting for much of the week. But the water is now warming and many species are moving and HUNGRY. We check with Jamie at landing 615 who has a fishing barge set in the best spot below Lock and Dam 10.  We also talk with Larry, who runs Murray's Outdoors on Thursdays.  He has great information on fishing, rod and reel selection and Roberta's love life. Finally, we talk with Chad Dolan from Iowa DNR about the work they are doing in surveying Muskellunge (supercharged Northern Pike)_ and whether you should keep a big female walleye that is ready to spawn.   Bob loses interest before we finish.  If you have any left over Ritalin or other attention deficit drugs.  Please bring them by the store and administer ASAP.     OMG Big Walleye At their Best!

    There is a time each year that the ice is gone, the water is cold and the Walleyes are hungry.  This week, the spot to be is just below the dam at Guttenberg, Iowa.  Murray's outdoors will set you up and point you to the best place to catch BIG Walleye females and some large Ring Perch. We talk with Jamie at Landing 615.  He expands on his Fishing Barge and how many big fish are being caught.  See the fish on fb Jamie Dinger Page Larry (long suffering step dad to Bob) gives us instruction on how to rig for Ring Perch and maybe some background on Roberta  (Jail, soliciting, etc) and on what's in the store for fishermen and women. We also talk with Luke Stoyer from Memory Maker Sports Fishing Charter out of Kenosha, Wisconsin.  He guides on Lake Michigan and talks about how they catch Salmon and Lake Trout.  Very interesting guy.  Maybe you'd like to make a big trip out in the Big Lake..     BIG Walleye Biting! Boat or Barge, Fishing's Good

    Prepare for a VERY STRONG Storm System to sweep across the region but, ahead of it, fishermen are reeling in the early Walleye bite and it has some very big females as large as 29 1/2 reported from Saint Larry at Murray's Outdoors on the South End of Guttenberg, under the (fitting) Big Walleye. Bob is heading for the Eastern Iowa Sports Show at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls for a full weekend of talking, selling and demonstrating technique in a 50 ft long glass tank stocked with all the species in the area. Bob also gives some good advice on fishing under a full moon.  The best I've heard from him (ever)!   Larry had a birthday this week, so please tell him Happy Birthday if you see him because he has declared March to be his Birthday MONTH. Roberta may become the Telephone Voice of Murray's Outdoors.  Bob and Larry like the idea of you (customers) hearing her voice and imagining that she is beautiful.  Catfish Al Moran likes her in the flesh..try not to imagine anything more.
