    56. Clear Writing is Clear Thinking with Mara Eller

Let's get clear about clarity! Clarity in writing is one of those ideas we take for granted - of course, good writing is "clear." But what does that mean? In this week's episode, Liz and Ariel chat with Mara Eller, writing teacher and editor, about how to achieve clarity in your writing. Mara teaches that clarity is about how you communicate your ideas with the reader - and so you have to start by clarifying those ideas.

    54. A Book is the Beginning with Meg Geisewite

    54. A Book is the Beginning with Meg Geisewite

Meg Geisewite's book, Intoxicating Lies, is one of our favorite examples of a "teaching memoir": a book that blends memoir with prescriptive nonfiction. It's a tricky balance to achieve, as we discuss in today's podcast - but Meg pulls it off beautifully! Moreover, when Meg started writing, she had little experience as a professional writer - she just had a story to tell. Pretty soon, however, she found that her story was an inspiration to others and it has led to a social media community, speaking at conferences, coaching others, and starting a new writing community for other women in similar circumstances. For Meg, a book was just the beginning!

Truly helpful and inspiring

As an author and writer I feel like there is SO MUCH out there that promises to be helpful. Where do you even begin? If I may: here is a great place to start! Ariel and Liz are so knowledgeable and refreshing to listen to. Because they quote from so many other experts, they have a wealth of well-curated information to share. I especially found the “Mining for Content” episode super helpful and affirming. Thank you both, and can’t wait to listen to more!

Perfect for aspiring authors!

As an aspiring author, this podcast is perfect. I learn something valuable each and every time I listen. Liz and Ariel also provide some hard truths but do not leave you feeling helpless. For every piece of hard truth, they provide a practical piece of advice. The means in which they provide that information is engaging. Just like a teacher who can help information stick through engaging stories, Liz and Ariel are able to teach you things that you will never forget. If I could draw up a dream way for new authors to learn about everything publishing, this would be it. Thank you!
