Hunt the Horizon

Jonathon Klein

Hunt the Horizon is Jonathon Klein's quest to teach himself how to hunt. But as someone who doesn’t have the family support from infancy, I felt there was a true lack of firsthand accounts about doing just that. Yes, there are sites, podcasts, videos, and social media accounts that’ll teach you a ton about your chosen method of hunting. And there are countless stories about the best gear, as well as how-tos littered throughout the internet. But those are often filled with language only applicable to seasoned vets. Or are quite disparate in terms of scope, so you end up having to puzzle-piece it together, as I have. Where is the content that both teaches you the basics of getting ready to hunt and does so in a first-person perspective as your grandparent or parent would tell you? How do you figure out what you need to do for your state? What you need to practice before ever setting out? About the importance of lotteries and tags and hunting units? Of the conservation aspect? Where are the stories to help you figure it all out? That’s the plan with Hunt the Horizon. To lay everything out on the table each week that I’ve been able to glean from my master’s course I’ve put on myself and get the listener and I ready to go hunting. Welcome, and let's get started. Two More Hunts And Do I Have the Right Gear?

After two weeks away, I'm back with apologies. Many things happened, and I hope you all will forgive me. This week's episode details how I may have added two more hunts to my first-year roster, including one for mule deer and one for pronghorn antelope. Those won't be decided until I hear from the state of Utah's big game coordinators at the end of May, but I'm excited about the possibility. I also detail everything I've purchased to go hunting, how much it cost me, why I chose it, and detail how I did so on a budget. I also talk about how you too can find deals and get discounts, so you don't have to spend $5,000 trying to get into hunting. So let's dive in! If you have any questions, hit me up in the comments or through either the show's Instagram: @hunthorizon, or my personal one, which is: @jonathon_klein. Have a great week!
