Hush

Hush is an investigative podcast from OPB, uncovering the buried truth about critical stories in the Pacific Northwest. In the first season, we look at the case of Jesse Lee Johnson, a Black man who lived for 17 years on Oregon’s death row for a crime he says he didn’t commit, and we try to understand why the state tried for so long to kill him.

I listen to ton of podcasts and this is one of the better ones. The story was well told and hit on the challenges of the justice system. It’s frustrating to think that all evidence is not considered before pursuing an arrest and conviction of a person. I was under the illusion that Oregon was such a progressive state. Boy was I wrong.
Exactly the quality of reporting you expect from Leah Sottile.

This is the kind of journalism we need now for than ever. Oregon’s racial exclusion laws haven’t gone away so much as shape shifted. This is a heartbreaking story reported with tenacity and care.
Excellent investigative reporting

I first discovered Leah Sottile and Ryan Haas through their Bundyville podcast. I have enormous respect for the in-depth investigative journalism they bring to every project. Their new podcast Hush is illuminating and infuriating, and it provides fascinating insight into the police force and justice system of Oregon’s state capitol.
