I Got That Wrong

Thank you for always being so real and sharing your experiences! It’s so helpful to know stepmoms are not alone in the struggles they face!

It’s hard to combat the “evil stepmom” stereotype when you bring a guest who married a single dad and then complains that she became an “unexpected stepmom”. We are expected to believe she is a coach and expert but she cited a ridiculous quote (that she couldn’t remember where she read it) that 90 or 98% of stepmoms are harassed by the prior wife. What? Then she gives horrible advice about how to contact the police and FBI (seriously?) using information she must have gleaned from TV shows. Take pictures of the screen instead of screenshots? And the host never questions any of these bizarre statements...she takes them as fact. Not a reliable podcast for accurate info.

The episode featuring Lisa, founder of Women Against Stalking & Harassment, was not properly vetted or fact-checked. 1. Lisa’s stepson’s biomom was shot TWICE, and her stepson’s grandfather was also shot TWICE by a man named Tom Maffei. Maffei will die in prison for his crimes. The fact Lisa never brings this up should be a huge red flag, both to the host and its listeners. 2. A temporary protective order WAS granted to Lisa’s stepson’s mother—against Lisa. The order was not made permanent because Lisa never outright threatened “biomom,” but a judge did grant a temporary order against Lisa for online harassment, and that is fact. Anyone can look it up. 3. Lisa was arrested in Greensboro, NC for harassing her ex-husband, and those records are attainable through the courts. I could go on, but those should be enough concerning red flags. Lisa launched “WASH,” which has no web presence beyond a Facebook and IG page that posts memes, before she appeared in court for the temporary protective order. Lastly, she’s on another podcast saying that a psychologist gave her the biomom’s diagnosis. Again, a serious red flag. She is a life coach, admitting to serious ethical misconduct, not to mention the psychologist can now be held liable as well. I cannot stress enough the importance of factchecking and properly and responsibly vetting the people you allow on your show!

Thank you for the work you’ve obviously put into each episode. The advice and relatable experiences are genuine and I appreciate being invited into your home via the podcast for the sake of assisting Blended Families’
