DC House Grooves was established in 2004 as the online presence for Washington, DC based DJ Andy Grant. Over time, the site’s mission has expanded to promoting Washington, DC’s many talented DJs through the Body Werk events series and the Meet the Locals Podcast, and providing trusted information and opinion on what’s going on in DC’s underground electronic music scene. Primarily focused on deep, underground house music, yet inviting each DJ to showcase their own style, DC House Grooves strives to provide the best mixes from DC based DJs, and the best information about what’s going on each weekend in the nation’s capital.

For this edition, we went fully analog. All vinyl, all night. No CDJs, no digital shortcuts. Just turntables, deep crates, and the kind of musical journey that only comes from DJs who live and breathe records. Our special guest DJ Osmose is a turntablist with more than 26 years behind the decks, known for wide-ranging sets that moved fluidly between disco, 70s funk & soul, 80s boogie, golden era hip-hop, reggae, Brazilian cuts, and deep house while always keeping the dance floor in focus. Osmose has shared the stage with artists including Grandmaster Flash, DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, Kai Alce, Ursula 1000, Lee “Scratch” Perry, and The Wailers, and has toured extensively across North America, South America and the Caribbean. Osmose is also the founder of Smokecloud Records, a strictly vinyl-only label focused on soul and funk driven dance music reworks for DJs who value musical range and analog sound. His productions have appeared on respected labels including Whiskey Disco, Masterworks Music, Honey Disco & Pizza Night, Friendly Monster Records, Editor’s Kutz, Magic Wand, and Wall of Fame, with 36 vinyl releases to date. Residents Andy Grant and Katrina Mir returned to the studio for a proper vinyl session, setting the tone for the year ahead the only way we know how: deep cuts, long blends, and heads-down energy from start to finish. A serious stack of new records had landed over the holidays and into January, and we gave them a full workout. The session moved through underground house, Detroit-leaning techno, electro pressure, acid textures, and everything in between. No shortcuts. No playlists.
