    Here. Near. Far. | Acts 2:42-47 | Week 2 - James Sharp

In most English Bibles, the formal title of the book of Acts is The Acts of the Apostles. Yet this is misleading. We do see the apostles do some incredible things in this book, but Acts tells us the story of the continuing ministry of King Jesus. He builds his kingdom—his Church—by sending his Spirit to empower his people to spread his Word and carry his gospel to the end of the earth. Acts tells us what Jesus continued to do—even as it invites us into Christ’s work, story, and people. Here. Near. Far. hopes to capture the trajectory of Christ’s purpose and work—from Jerusalem, through Judea and Samaria, to ancient Rome and beyond. Prior to his ascension into heaven, Jesus promised his disciples, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). We are swept up in that trajectory, and we have a role to play. We are witnesses, empowered by the Holy Spirit, commissioned to advance the gospel throughout our community here (our “Jerusalem”), in communities near (our “Judea and Samaria”), and far (“to the end of the earth”). This Sunday we are in Acts 2:42-47. For Life Group Discussion Questions, visit: lifechurchnc.com/herenearfar. To give toward Here. Near. Far. visit: lifechurchnc.com/give.
