I started listening to this podcast a few months ago because I was so so tired of listening to today's current music during my workouts. I have no idea how I found this crew but I think it was because I searched for "black" and "gossip."
GFB stars Quadre (sorry if the name is misspelled), Stass, Quinn and Alex.
Quadre is the leader, or lead vocalist if you will, of the group. He has a dry, sarcastic type of humor that works and I love his, "GIRL!" whenever someone says something stupid. I love how he's a vegetarian and I'd love it if he spoke about it more, even if it's a funny story, like his tofurkey. 😂 He definitely keeps the show flowing and tries to keep everyone on track.
Stass is the firecracker and the only woman of the bunch but she can hold her own just fine. However she reminds me of that hairdresser your mother sends you to every two weeks: even if she is on time she still manages to sneak away while you're under the dryer to pick up a fish plate. I love LOVE her interactions with Alex.
Alex is sweet and lovable and unintentionally funny. He always sounds like he's calling from a basement's basement, but that's what makes the show! He's the lighthearted one and I like how he always takes the best and worst of the week segment so seriously and reveals information I didn't know about.
Quinn is a hidden treasure. He's a fellow Barb and while he isn't as talkative as Alex, when he does say something it is always funny. He always pulls out reality tv quotes. "Let em know Greg!" is one of my favorites.
Now that you're familiar with the players, here are my pros and cons:
Pros-
1) They all have amazing chemistry. Like "Martin" I can't see the show being the same without all of them. It just wouldn't work. I also enjoy their guest CJ.
2) They have a pretty consistent schedule. It wasn't always like this, but they've gotten a lot better and I know it's probably difficult to find a time when 4+ individuals can get together for over an hour.
3) I love how long the shows are. Some podcasts are only 30 minutes. GFB is always 1 hour and 30 minutes at least. I can finish an entire workout just listening to them.
4) They aren't fancy. They are definitely down to earth and they just say what's on their minds. If you're looking for PC entertainment, this isn't the place.
5) They cover white and black gossip. You don't have to listen to two different podcasts to hear about Britney and Trick Daddy.
6) They have a consistent show flow. They always (briefly) talk about their week first, hot topics, games (blind items), best and worst and then their playlists. I like that I know what to expect and it's not all over the place.
Now I love this show and I don't want to focus too much on the cons but I only have two pet peeves and they are:
1) Alex please stop talking over everybody. I like him, I do, but someone will literally be in the middle of a sentence and he'll just talk about an entirely new subject. Like, what?
2) Sometimes they will talk about things on Twitter or bring up private conversations and they won't let the listener know what they're talking about. I get that it's hard not to do that, but it would be nice if we could all laugh.
With that said, I've listened to other black gossip podcasts and I have no idea why this show isn't more popular. This group is amazing and I hope they keep going! I can see them turning this into something bigger because they are so funny and their chemistry is better than any of the other black podcasts. Slow and steady wins the race and I think they will make it. Good luck guys!
