Just limped my way through Ep4 or 5 only b/c of the rare chance to hear one-on-ones with either Dan Carter or Jonny Wilkinson, let alone both on the same podcast. I’m conflicted after hearing the entire cast now; because 50% of the cast was “OK” as Drew tried his best to buddy up for 5 mins with each of these legends... but after peaking too soon by opening with their best material, they’re then left with 20 mins to kill by slagging off pretty much every race, name, creed or colour that they could possibly offend - On this episode they go particularly hard against anyone Welsh... and twist the dagger into Twitter users who asked “complex questions” (because they are the “FUN CAST” and serious Q’s or questions requiring thought or usage of Drew’s single brain cell, gets immediately binned) along with the user and their name. (Tip: when trying to build a new podcast; Rule #1 is not to slag off the listeners who have taken the time to download and add your cast to the 100’s of others out there) Needless to say, I deleted this immediately after hearing what JW and legend DC had to say (feeding kids was the common theme) though as an AB’s follower since 1999, I can understand DC’s 2004 “reboot” of the All Blacks he mentions, as I was there during that rebuilding time and fortunate enough to witness first hand the fruits of those efforts against the Lion’s Tour, Tri-Nations, and ultimately in the RWC’s throughout the 00’s and early 2010’s.
Lastly, not knowing these hosts before today (Drew?), it reminds me of someone handing a mic to a burned out retired player and asking him to lead the charge that is this cast- but he’s clearly out of his depths... Even his sidekick winces and cringes at times when he clearly crosses a line. In this case, taking the piss out of some Twitter usernames and the Welsh as they wrap the show up, and the sidekicks gasp says it all - “Dude, you’ve crossed the line for sure this time”.. by repeatedly saying “I don’t think you can say that?!” At least one of them is clued in. If you’re Welsh you’ll definitely be offended. If you’re a Twitter user with a question, be prepared to be publicly humiliated. There’s a very fine line between confidence and arrogance. This show is loaded with the latter. Typically driven by fear of “I have no idea what I’m doing”.
