Barry & Honey Sherman (Part Two: Close Enough)

"No suicide note was located and none of the medical records located in the office relate to mental health or indicate anything in regards to suicide." On Monday, January 15th, 2018, a month to the day after the bodies of Barry and Honey Sherman were found in their home, two Toronto homicide detectives walked into the head office of Apotex on Signet Drive. They were looking for anything - a note, a journal, medical records - that might show a man who was sick or depressed or otherwise planning something. What they found, though, was an unfinished memoir written by the man at the center of this mystery, 75-year-old Barry Sherman. He'd written it years beforehand, while on vacation with his family. Detectives were hoping that it might provide an easier answer to their questions. Instead, what they had uncovered was a backstory that complicated things even further... Barry & Honey Sherman (Part One: Old Colony Road)

"If this is a murder-suicide by hanging, it will be the first one recorded in history." On the morning of Friday, 15 December 2017, police in Toronto were contacted by multiple people at a residence in North York. The calls came in just before noon, and were from the housekeeper who cleaned the home every Friday, a real estate agent that was selling the property, and a contractor who took care of the plants. They were sure that they had discovered the bodies of the homeowners, 75-year-old Barry Sherman and his 70-year-old wife Honey, in the basement near the indoor pool. As investigators would soon learn, the Shermans were exorbitantly wealthy and had rubbed shoulders with some of the most influential and powerful Canadians for decades. But investigators were unable to determine whether they had been killed by someone else, or by someone much closer to home... Jeffrey Merriweather Jr.

"At this point in time, all I want is what’s left of my son and put him to rest." On 22 June 2019, skeletal remains were discovered behind an abandoned house on Pecan Drive, in southwest Atlanta, partially covered up by a deflated air mattress. Despite the advanced decomposition of the remains, authorities quickly linked them to a man who'd gone missing after a bizarre shooting incident days earlier, named Jeffrey Merriweather Jr. Despite identifying the remains, authorities at the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office are unable to how, exactly, Merriweather had died. So they wrote a letter to a medical examiner in St. Louis, and arranged transit of the remains 500 miles northwest. On July 5th, a package containing at least some of Merriweather's remains were dropped off at a FedEx office, and the package made it at least as far as Austell, Georgia, before disappearing entirely...
