    Only Three Lads: Elf Power's Andrew Rieger - Top 5 Elephant 6 Obscurities

    This week, we are heading back into the weird and wonderful world of the Elephant 6 collective - this time to talk about E6 obscurities. Yes, "obscurity" is relative. To the casual music fan, perhaps it's all obscure. We take it to mean that we don’t need another episode to extol the virtues of Neutral Milk Hotel’s In The Aeroplane, Over The Sea, Olivia Tremor Control’s Dusk At Cubist Castle, or The Apples In Stereo’s Tone Soul Evolution. Either way, we aim to uncover some of the lesser known gems in the consistently consistent E6 catalogue. Outside of the four founding members - Robert Schneider, Jeff Mangum, Will Cullen Hart, and Bill Doss - there is arguably no bigger name in the E6 universe than Elf Power and their songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Andrew Rieger.  Elf Power is responsible for some of the finest psych-pop and indie rock records since 1995...but we’re actually NOT here today to celebrate the release of a new Elf Power album, but rather roughly five minutes of some of the most surprising music to come out in 2025. Leap Through Poisoned Air is a from the vaults collaboration EP between the late, great Will Cullen Hart, who we lost in 2024, and Andrew Rieger, and released on Rieger and keyboardist Laura Carter’s label Orange Twin.  Thanks to Mike Turner from Crashing Through Publicity for the introduction and coordination! Jon Bon Jovi is still showing vocal struggles in public performance, this time during a Tony Robbins appearance. Zakk Wylde revealed the song that first made him want to pick up the guitar and explained his motivation for opening for Black Label Society. Reactivated Sister Sin has released “Drive,” only its second new single in 12 years. Metallica has added six more “Life Burns Faster” Sphere residency shows in Las Vegas. Mortgage brokers are standing by. A massive Ozzy Osbourne statue will be unveiled at Hellfest, while Sharon says Ozzfest will return in 2027. Members of Ace Frehley’s solo band have announced an Australian tour celebrating a late KISS legend. Geddy Lee says Anika Nilles didn’t click immediately, but by day five she had nailed it. But, is it for the glory or the cash? Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony say they have not been asked to take part in Alex Van Halen’s project with Steve Lukather.     Ugly American Werewolf in London: Stewart Copeland of The Police

    Stewart Copeland is so much more than the drummer from The Police. Over the decades he's been in numerous bands, scored films and tv series, written operas, performed with orchestras and engaged folks on his speaking tours. He's lived around the world and toured it as well, while being part of some of the most memorable songs and videos in the early MTV era. As The Wolf and Action Jackson are (grown?) children of the MTV generation, we fulfilled our lifelong dream of speaking with the gregarious American member of our first favorite rock band. Stewart's articulate and energetic personality shines as he talks about his opportunity to play the opening ceremonies of the Paralympic Games in Italy. He regales with stories of when Andy entered the picture and made his life easier while Summers presence meant Sting finally had someone to give his songs the proper harmonies he'd been looking for. Though we loved those Godley & Creme videos from Synchronicity, he said all three of them were completely miserable during the whole experience. But he also talks about finding his love for making music again by working with Francis Ford Coppola while creating movie scores. The long prep with orchestras to perform Police - Deranged for Orchestra shows that he still has a great work ethic (and we look forward to reviewing that performance soon) and he loves the laughs he gets from his Have I Said Too Much speaking tours. His unbridled passion and enthusiasm are evident throughout the interview which two lifelong fans hope you enjoy as much as we did.
