    Two types of offerings at the temple The rich out of their abundance The poor widow out of her lack Widows had some support in Israel – Deut. 14:29 (temple tithes); 24:19-21 (gleanings) Jesus commends the widow’s love and faith She gives to God what is God’s (12:13-17) She sees beyond this life into the next (12:18-27) She loves God with all she has (12:28-34) She honours God more than herself (12:35-40) True generosity comes from believing the gospel Love of the God who saves you and gives you all you have Love God first, not ourselves Love God out of thankfulness. Love God who gives you all you have Faith in the God who is powerful and can provide for you God makes our generosity powerful God can provide for us, even in death Generous with money, time, talents and other treasure (possessions) TIP: Read “The Cheerful Giver” by Des Smith for more encouragement on generosity.
