Gaza Flotilla Fallout, Israeli Arab Society

Eleven Australians took part in the Gaza flotilla charade and following Ben-Gvir's appalling behaviour dealing with the detainees in Israel the story grew horns. Avi Abelow who calls himself the Pulse of Israel wrote about the outfall from the Gaza flotilla with an illuminating perspective. "The reaction from Western governments, media outlets, Jewish organizational leaders, and even Israel’s own leadership, including Prime Minister Netanyahu, was immediate outrage directed at Ben-Gvir. To many people, based on how the story has been framed and how we Western-educated Jews have been conditioned to think about what it means to be “good Jews,” that outrage may sound reasonable at first. But according to Avi that is not the real scandal. (0:57-27:23) Mohammad Darawashe leads Givat Haviva’s strategic development with empathy, innovation, and a lifelong dedication to advancing an equal and shared society in Israel. Settler Colonialism

In early March an event ‘Settler colonialism’: What it can tell us about the conflict in Israel/Palestine  took place in Adelaide.  Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, was in conversation with Henry Reynolds, a historian of frontier violence in Australia, and Lana Tatour, a proponent of settler colonialism. The event was moderated by UN commissioner Chris Sidoti. This episode of 'The Israel Connexion' debunks the notion of settler colonialism as it is applied to Israel, dismantling particularly the fallacious remarks made by Tatour.  Prof Greg Melleuish is a professorial fellow of the Robert Menzies Institute. Before his recent retirement, he was a professor in the School of Humanities and Social Inquiry at the University of Wollongong, where he taught, among other things, Australian politics. He has written widely on Australian political thought, including Cultural Liberalism in Australia and Despotic State or Free Individual. Dr Ran Porat is a university lecturer and analyst on Israel and Middle Eastern Affairs; he is an expert on extremism in the Australian Arab/Muslim Community and on the Israeli Diaspora in Australia. He is also a research associate at the Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council (AIJAC) and a research fellow at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism at the Reichman University in Herzliya.
