A Deep Dive: Discipleship Is Learning to Follow Jesus Every Day with Rick Howerton

Author and discipleship leader Rick Howerton explores what it truly means to follow Jesus — not simply through church attendance, generosity, or biblical knowledge, but through a life of wholehearted surrender and obedience. Drawing from the ancient Jewish tradition of discipleship, where followers walked so closely behind their rabbi that they were covered in the dust of his feet, Rick reminds us that following Jesus is more than learning about him. It is a daily commitment to becoming more like him. Through powerful historical illustrations and personal stories, Rick challenges us to move beyond comfortable Christianity and embrace the adventure of authentic discipleship. Just as those who answered a greater call throughout history were willing to surrender their own plans and ambitions, followers of Jesus are invited to pursue a life shaped by his purposes. Biblical discipleship calls us to grow through intentional relationships, authentic community, and a daily rhythm in God's Word. Following Rick's message, Keith Lowry and Caleb Rhoades join him for a conversation about PCBC's disciple-making strategy and how our church is equipping believers to grow as disciples who make disciples. Together, they explore the importance of small groups, daily engagement with Scripture through DWELL, and practical opportunities to invest in the spiritual growth of others. This session invites us to consider not only what it costs to follow Jesus, but the extraordinary purpose and adventure that await when we surrender our lives to him.

A Deep Dive on Freedom of Conscience in the Age of AI with Dr. Katie Frugé

Dr. Katie Frugé, director of the Christian Life Commission for Texas Baptists, explores the rapidly changing world of artificial intelligence and what it means for one of our most treasured Baptist convictions: freedom of conscience. With a Ph.D. in systematic theology and research focused on the image of God and human dignity, Dr. Frugé helps Christians think biblically about the cultural, moral, and ethical questions shaping our world. As algorithms increasingly influence what we see, hear, and believe — and generative AI makes it more difficult to distinguish what is real from what is fabricated — followers of Jesus face new questions about truth, authority, and discernment. Dr. Frugé considers what it means to guard our God-given capacity to think, discern, and respond to God personally, recognizing that the voices amplified by technology should not automatically be granted authority in our lives. This message invites us to reclaim active, prayerful discernment as an essential spiritual discipline. If God alone is Lord of the conscience, Christians are called to examine what we receive through Scripture, prayer, and the community of faith rather than passively allowing technology to shape our convictions. In a world of endless information and rapidly evolving technology, we are reminded that visibility is not authority and faithful discernment remains essential to following Jesus.
