9941: Share Jesus with the 1 Week #4

A lot of people probably think of you as a good person. You watch what you say, you're kind, you show up for your friends. But here's the harder question: do they know Jesus? Have you ever actually brought Him up? Week four of 9941 builds on everything we've said about our words and our actions impacting the one, and then pushes further. Brian gets personal about how often he's leaned on being the nice, encouraging, no-cussing guy and hoped that would be enough, while the name of Jesus never came up in the conversation. Living it matters. But we're also called to speak it. In Romans 10, Paul lays out a simple chain: people can't call on someone they don't believe in, can't believe in someone they've never heard of, and can't hear unless someone tells them. Salvation is a gift, not something anyone earns, but a gift that never gets handed over doesn't help anybody. We also look at why Paul calls the feet of messengers beautiful. Not because they were pretty, but because they were dusty, tired, and carrying news that people desperately needed to hear. If you've ever been stranded and seen help show up, you know exactly what that feels like. You don't need every answer to talk about Jesus, and "I don't know" is okay. What matters is that you go. So as you listen, think about the people in your life who can see you but haven't heard from you. Who's your one? This week, walk the gift over to them. Scripture: Romans 10:14-15, Luke 15:1-7

9941: Our actions matter Week #3

You can tell somebody Jesus loves them, but if you treat them poorly, those words won't carry much weight. You can tell someone Jesus forgives people, but it rings hollow coming from the person who holds a grudge against everybody. The people around us aren't just listening to what we say. They're watching how we live. Week three of 9941 moves from our words to our actions. In Matthew 5, Jesus calls His followers the light of the world and tells us to let that light shine so others see our good works and give glory to God. That doesn't mean being perfect or having it all together. It means there's something different about the way we live. Whether we realize it or not, our lives are communicating something every day. How we treat people, how we respond when we're angry, how we act when our team is losing or when someone hurts us, all of it tells people something about Jesus. We also talk about what happens when we mess up, because we will. A Christian doesn't pretend they never fall short. A Christian can say "I was wrong" and "Will you forgive me?" and sometimes that kind of humility is one of the most powerful things a friend will ever see. From 1 John 3, we look at what it means to love not just with words but with actions and in truth. There's a big difference between saying "Let me know if you need anything" and actually showing up. Jesus didn't just tell us He loved us. He came for us, served us, and gave Himself for us. The gospel isn't only something Jesus said. It's something Jesus did. And reaching the one always starts with loving the one. When people know you genuinely care, they start asking why, and that opens the door to say, "Because Jesus loved me like that." We close with three simple steps: think about your one, ask what one action you can take toward them this week, and then go. Sit with them, talk to them, help them, notice them. You don't need a Bible degree or every answer, and you don't have to save anyone. Jesus does that. The shepherd in Luke 15 didn't just care about the lost sheep. He went after it. This week, don't just think about the one. Go.

9941: Our Words impact the 1 Week #2

Picture a sixth grader getting the console they've wanted for years. They carry the box home, tear it open, and find nothing inside but trash. That's the feeling people get when a Christian's words don't match what's on the outside of the package. Week two of 9941 is about the gap between what we wear and what we say. When people know you follow Jesus — the shirt, the hat, the team, the church you go to — they expect the character of Jesus when they open you up. Proverbs says words bring life or death, and that's true every day at school. Your words either make someone want to hear more about Jesus, or they make sure that person never wants to hear about Him from you. A bridge or a barrier. James is honest about how hard this is. A bit steers a horse. A rudder steers a ship. A spark levels a forest. Small things with enormous power. We've tamed lions and killer whales, but no human being has ever tamed the tongue. So the answer can't be try harder — you've already tried that. Jesus gets underneath it: out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. We don't have a speech problem, we have a heart problem. The mouth isn't the problem, it's the gauge. A nicer picture on the outside of the box never changes what's inside. That's the part only God does — a new heart, a new spirit. But you still choose what goes in the box: what's in your ears on the bus, what you scroll before bed, which group chat you stay in, which lobby you drop into. What goes in comes out. The closer you get to Jesus, the more you sound like Him. There's also a tool in this one — the THINK filter. Before you speak: Is it true? Is it helpful? Is it inspiring? Is it necessary? Is it kind? And if you're tempted to just stop wearing the shirt so nobody catches you being human, listen to that part carefully. Taking the shirt off doesn't change what's in the box. 9941 doesn't say look at me, it says ask me. "I'm not there yet, but this is who I'm following" is something people can handle. What they can't handle is fake. We end back at the story. The shepherd left the ninety-nine and went into the dark for one, and he knew exactly what he'd find out there. He wasn't looking for the clean one. You're not the one He gave up on. You're the one He went after. Scripture: James 3:3-10, Proverbs 18:21, Ephesians 4:29, Luke 6:45, Ezekiel 36:26

9941 Week 1 Who is your One?

Have you ever realized everyone got invited somewhere except you? Being left out can make you wonder whether anybody even cares that you're there. This week we kick off 9941, a series built on one of Jesus' most famous stories. In Luke 15, the religious leaders are grumbling that Jesus welcomes sinners and eats with them, so He tells them about a shepherd with a hundred sheep who loses one. Instead of settling for the ninety-nine, he goes after the one until he finds it, carries it home on his shoulders, and throws a celebration. The big idea is simple: you are never just another person in the crowd to Jesus. He knows when you're struggling, hurting, confused, or excited. And when you've drifted, whether through your choices, distractions, or just slowly letting prayer and Scripture fade, He doesn't stop loving you. He comes looking. And heaven rejoices when one person comes home. But this story doesn't just change how we see ourselves. It changes how we see the people around us. If the one matters to Jesus, the one should matter to us. It's easy to assume someone else will talk to the student sitting alone or the friend who doesn't know Jesus yet. But maybe you're someone else. We also launch the 9941 shirt challenge and walk through two ways to share the story behind it: a quick version for the hallway or the bus, and a longer one for when there's time to really talk. As you listen, sit with the question we close on: Who is your one? Scripture: Luke 15:1-7

Everyone's Asking AI, But God Has Already Answered: How do I Find Peace? Week 4

Have you ever been wide awake at 2:00 AM with your mind absolutely racing? Most of us don't wake up our parents, call a friend, or pray. We grab our phone and type our fear into a chatbot — and the answer that comes back is tidy, organized, and completely unable to reach the knot in our stomach. Everyone is asking AI, but God has already answered. In this message, we look at what worry and anxiety actually are, why they're not the same thing, and how one small "what-if" can spiral into a full-blown tornado. Underneath all of it is a question about control: who's driving your life, and do you trust them? Scripture gives us an equation worth preaching to ourselves daily — God is in control, God is good, and God loves me. Then we head out onto the water in Luke 5, where Simon Peter gets so overwhelmed that his first instinct is to push Jesus away. Sound familiar? When we're anxious, our default is "leave me alone" — we retreat to our rooms, our headphones, our screens. But isolation is exactly where the enemy wants us. Instead of "get out of my boat," we need to say, "Jesus, get in my boat." You'll also get two practical weapons from Scripture you can use tonight: the Altitude Principle and the Gratitude Principle. A note before you listen: if you're struggling with an anxiety disorder, therapy and medication can be a faithful part of trusting God's provision. You are not alone, and you don't have to carry this by yourself. Scriptures: Luke 5:1-11, Psalm 42:11, Philippians 4:6, 1 Peter 5:7
