Why do people keep resisting new things? That’s the question Pessimists Archive tries to answer. In each episode, we travel back in time to the moment that a new technology or innovation was introduced—something that today we think of as totally commonplace!—and we explore why everyone was freaking out about it. Our hope is this: By seeing how repetitive and often silly yesterday's fears were, we can begin to defang today’s fears as well.

Very fun take on history

This podcast is a fun take on learning about culture through history. By taking something that is benign in our modern society and explaining why it was controversial in a different era it sheds light on cultural nuances of the past while at the same time light heartedly poking fun at a lot of things that we currently take offense to. Energetic, well paced and well researched.

Very enjoyable podcast

Pessimists Archive is one of my favorite podcasts, I always learn something new that makes me look at history in a different way. Apparently there was always pushback against anything new and different. Jason does a great job.

Great perspective.

Pessimist Archive may not be the most appropriate name but the information is fantastic.

It’s more like “history today”. It gives perspective on ideas today that have been repeated throughout time. It really does what history should do and give you perspective on the reality of today and what is important/worrisome and what is not.
