When a mysterious glowing pink rock at the edge of the meadow hums back at them, the twins do the only thing they know how to do: Hugalina wraps it in her gold-trimmed blanket and Kissalina presses her lips to its surface — and the rock pulls them both straight into its rosy center. They land with an enormous splash in the extraordinary bubblegum-pink waters of Lake Retba in Senegal, where salt harvesters move through the shallows with flat baskets on their heads and pink pelicans stand unbothered on the shore.
