WWE and AEW went head-to-head again Wednesday night — and WWE certainly didn’t act like AEW didn’t matter. This week on the Tapped Out Podcast, Nick and Myron look beyond simply recapping NXT and Dynamite and ask what the night actually says about the state of the wrestling business. WWE brought out some serious firepower for NXT, including John Cena, Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Kevin Owens and the return of Paige, while AEW answered by leaning heavily into what its audience expects with two Blood & Guts matches featuring names like Will Ospreay, Adam Copeland, Darby Allin, The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada and Kyle Fletcher. If AEW isn’t a real threat to WWE financially, why was WWE willing to load NXT up this heavily? And does AEW’s real value come from beating WWE — or simply from giving WWE another major wrestling company it has to react to? Nick and Myron also break down the major John Cena Classic announcement from Raw. Cena officially unveiled the John Cena Classic Championship, Cody Rhodes is already in, Zilla Fatu received a personal invitation from Cena, and Club WWE members will have a role in voting on the top performance of the night. But that may only be the beginning. WWE will attempt something it has never done before on December 14 — two separate Monday Night Raw broadcasts on the same day, with one coming from Perth, Australia and another from ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World. Then one night later, the Disney partnership grows even bigger with Worlds Collide: Avengers — Doomsday, featuring WWE, NXT and AAA talent just days before the Marvel Studios movie hits theaters.
