The Titans erased a 13-0 halftime deficit behind a defense that produced six sacks and three takeaways, plus a special teams unit that delivered a blocked punt touchdown, a huge punt return, and four second-half field goals. Ward made important plays along the way. But the win does not settle the questions about how well he played. Ward finished 11-of-22 for 102 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. After halftime, he completed seven of 15 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. Carnell Tate accounted for 54 of those 65 passing yards, putting the rookie receiver at the center of Tennessee’s second-half passing production. The touchdown connection with Tate deserves credit. Ward executed an important play that helped Tennessee erase the deficit, and he avoided another turnover after a costly first-half interception. He also contributed to the late scoring possessions that helped the Titans finish a game they badly needed to win. But does that make the performance acceptable? Or have the expectations for Tennessee’s quarterback fallen because the offense has struggled so much? We discuss the difference between acknowledging a meaningful response and treating it as evidence of substantial development. What did Ward do better after halftime? Which mistakes remained? How much did field position and the work of the defense and special teams change what the offense needed to accomplish? Saleh’s explanation of the missed Ridley opportunity adds another piece to that evaluation.
